    Embark on this 12-day road trip to the cold desert valley of Spiti and explore the cultural and natural wonders of the valley. You'll drive through the breathtaking landscape of the valley, crossing high altitude passes like Kunzum La and Rohtang La to reach remote villages. At the villages, you'll get to experience the authentic Indo-Tibetan culture of the natives, and you'll spend the nights in traditional homestays. You'll also visit Chandratal, one of the most beautiful alpine lakes in the country. Some of the other highlights of this road trip are the visit to the highest post office of the world at Hikkim; a visit to Komik, the last village of India; crossing the Chicham Bridge, the highest bridge in the world; and a night spent at Langza, the fossil village.

    Spiti Valley is a high altitude desert valley located in the heart of Himalayas. This cold desert offers some of the most riveting sceneries of India, including soaring mountains, gushing rivers, and arid valleys. The valley is also dotted with remote villages located at high altitude, and high altitude roads which connect these villages. The valley is not only famous for its breathtaking landscape, but also for its Indo-Tibetan culture which is heavily influenced by Buddhism. This road trip gives you a perfect opportunity to explore and experience the cultural and natural wonders of this surreal valley.

    Rules on the trip

    Travellers are required to adhere to the instructions of the tour guide during the road trip to Spiti Valley.

    Travellers are requested to treat the local culture with respect and avoid littering, defacing property and monuments and causing general disturbance.

    Consumption of alcohol and drugs is strictly prohibited during the trip.

    Cancellation policy

    For cancellations made 21 days or more before departure of the Spiti Valley road trip: 90% refund.

    For cancellations made 15-21 days before departure of the Spiti Valley road trip: 75% refund.

    For cancellations made 8-14 days before departure of the Spiti Valley road trip: 50% refund.

    For cancellations made less than 8 days before departure of the Spiti Valley road trip: no refund.

    In case of no show: no refund.

    All refunds will be processed after deducting a transaction fee of INR 200 per person. This fee is charged by The Great Next.

    Additional instructions, booking policies, terms and conditions

    Pick-up and drop-off can be arranged from Chandigarh instead of Delhi if you notify the tour operator at the time of the booking.

    During this road trip to Spiti Valley, travellers will visit destinations at altitudes from 9,000 ft to 14,500 ft and may experience altitude sickness.

    Spiti Valley is located at an altitude with no internet connectivity and moderate road access/availability of services. Travellers are advised to take such circumstances under consideration before booking the trip.

    The tour operator takes utmost care to ensure safety of the travellers and shall not be held responsible for any mishap, accident or loss of life during the trip.

    The tour operator reserves the right to change or cancel the itinerary of this trip due to bad weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances to ensure maximum safety of travellers and staff.

  • Day 1 of the Spiti Valley Road Trip: Depart from Delhi

    Today, you'll report to ISBT Kashmiri Gate in New Delhi at 17:00 hrs and board the HRTC bus which will drive you to Mandi. Since it is an overnight bus journey, you may carry an extra blanket or shawl for the night. You'll reach Mandi by early in the morning.

    Day 2 of the Spiti Valley Road Trip: Mandi to Tirthan Valley

    Today, you'll reach Mandi/Aut early in the morning where you will board the local bus to Tirthan Valley. It is a 3-hour bus journey through a scenic landscape. Upon reaching Tirthan, you'll check-in at the guesthouse and then set out to explore the gorgeous forest valley. Overnight in guesthouse.

    Day 3 of the Spiti Valley Road Trip: Tirthan Valley to Sarahan

    Today, you'll leave for Sarahan in the morning. It is an adventurous drive that cuts across mountains to reach Sarahan. You'll reach Sarahan in the afternoon, after which you'll visit the local temple which is a famous attraction of the place. In the evening, you'll explore the hill station and then return to the guesthouse at night. Overnight in guesthouse at Sarahan.

    Day 4 of the Spiti Valley Road Trip: Sarahan to Chitkul via Sangla and Rackcham

    Today, you'll wake up and leave for Chitkul which is the last village on Indo-China border. En route, you'll also visit Sangla and Rankcham and explore the culture of mountain nomads. At Chitkul, you'll spend the evening interacting with locals and relaxing by the river. Overnight in guesthouse at Chitkul.

    Day 5 of the Spiti Valley Road Trip: Chitkul to Nako

    Today, you'll wake up early and leave for Nako which is the last village of the Kinnaur district. It is a long 6-hours drive where you'll start seeing the landscape slowly changing. At Nako, you'll get to explore the gorgeous, unique architecture of the traditionally built houses. You'll also visit the holy lake of Nako. Overnight in guesthouse at Nako.

    Day 6 of the Spiti Valley Road Trip: Nako to Mud via Gue, Tabo and Dhankar

    Today, you'll finally enter the Spiti Valley. Your first stop will be at Gue where you'll visit the only mummy preserved in India. After that, you'll head to Tabo to visit the second oldest monastery in the world. You will then head to Dhankar. After that, you'll drive to the Mud in Pin Valley which is one of the remotest part Spiti. You'll spend the evening exploring Mud and the night stargazing. Overnight in a guesthouse/homestay.

    Day 7 of the Spiti Valley Road Trip: Mud to Langza via Lallung, Demul, Komik, and Hikkim

    Today, you'll begin your day with a drive to Lallung, where you'll visit one of the oldest monasteries of Spiti. After that, you'll head to Demul where you can shop around for some unique handicraft in its colourful markets. After that, you'll drive to Komik which is the highest village in the world connected with a road. Next stop will be at Hikkim which houses the world's highest post office. From there, you'll drive to Langza. At Langza, you can spend the evening exploring the village and try your luck finding a fossil. Overnight in homestay.

    Day 8 of the Spiti Valley Road Trip: Langza to Losar via Kaza, Key, and Kibber

    Today, you'll begin your day with a drive to Kaza which is the headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti. Your next destination will be Key Gompa, one of the most revered monasteries in Himachal Pradesh. You'll then head to Kibber which is another gorgeous village. Your last destination for the day is Losar, and en route you'll cross the highest bridge in Asia: Chicham Bridge. You'll spend the evening exploring Losar. Overnight in guesthouse/homestay.

    Day 9 of the Spiti Valley Road Trip: Losar to Chandratal via Kunzum La

    Today, you'll drive to the enchanting Chandratal Lake, which is one of the most beautiful high altitude lakes in India. En route, you'll cross the mighty Kunzum La, which is one of the highest motorable roads in India. You'll reach the lake by noon, and spend the rest of the day relaxing at its banks. Overnight in tents at Chandratal campsite.

    Day 10 of the Spiti Valley Road Trip: Chandratal to Manali via Rohtang La

    Today, you'll drive to Manali. On the way, you'll cross the famous Rohtang La, which is one of the most adventurous roads in India, famous for its hairpin bends and thrilling curves. You'll reach Manali in the evening. You can spend the evening exploring its quaint cafes. Overnight in guesthouse.

    Day 11 of the Spiti Valley Road Trip: Explore Manali and Depart for Delhi

    Today, you'll spend the entire day exploring Manali. You'll visit the famous park, and then shop around in Manali's colourful markets. You can even head to the Beas River for rafting (at an additional cost). In the evening, you'll board the bus which will take you back to Manali. Overnight in transit bus.

    Day 12 of the Spiti Valley Road Trip: Reach Delhi

    Today, you'll reach New Delhi/Chandigarh by 09:00 hrs. Your trip ends here.
