Trekking
This is a paragraph with little content.

This is another small paragraph.

  • Trip introduction

This moderate 5 day trek is one of the most exciting in the Manali region of Himachal Pradesh. The most amazing feature of this trek is the manner in which the landscape changes each day. From thick jungle cover to undulating meadows to barren, desolate stretches of land, the Hampta Pass Trek has them all.

At 14, 100 feet, the Hampta Pass Trek takes you across the Pir Panjal Range, in the foothills of the Himalayas. The showstopper however is the visit to the turquoise Chandratal Lake.

    Destination

The Hampta Pass Trek serves as a crossover from Manali to Spiti Valley. No other trek in this region offers the kind of dramatic changes in landscape throughout the journey, that this one does. From the lush green Kullu valley, the Hampta Pass climbs up to an overhang, which looks over the vast, desolate, barren Spiti Valley. You will notice this all along the trek, where one side will be barren and the other side, lush green.

That apart, you will experience the thick, mixed forests of Jobra, the undulating meadows of Chikha, the fjords at Balu Ka Gera and the heavenly sight of the Chandratal Lake.

    Destination highlights

    • Witness the most surreal twists in landscape each day of the trek
    • Cross two fast flowing rivers
    • Witness the splendor of the Dhauladhar Range
    • Marvel at the sight of the Indrasan Peak and its massive glacier
    • Camp next to the heavenly Chandratal Lake

  • Day 1: Drive from Manali to Jobra and trek to Chikha

You are met at Manali Bus Stop and driven to Jobra. After a round of briefing, you begin this most exciting trek. Today you will trek up to Chikha, which is at 10,100 feet. It is a 2-hour climb and an easy one at that. You make your way through some spectacular landscape and thick forests, with the Rani river on one side and a rocky hill on the other. You will stay in tents at Chikha overnight.

Day 2: Trek from Chikha to Balu Ka Ghera

You climb slowly to Balu Ka Ghera, which lies at an altitude of 11, 900 feet. It will take you 5 hours to reach. On the way, you stand witness to the magnificent Dhauladhar range and the Indrasan Peak. You also cross two rivers, at Chikha camp site and Jwara Nala. From your campsite, you can see the steep ledges going up to the Hampta Pass, which you will attempt to cross the next day.

    Day 3: Crossing Hampta Pass

Today is the day when you cross the Hampta Pass, at an altitude of 14, 100 feet. You will trek through a gorge like valley, flanked on both sides by intimidating mountains. You will see the Indrasan Peak and its huge glacier from the Hampta Pass. As you start descending from the Hampta Pass to the campsite of Siagoru, you will witness the most incredible change of scenery. Lying in front of you would be the barren and desolate expanse of the desert mountains of Spiti. You camp at Siagoru overnight.

Day 4: Chandratal Lake via Chhatru

You'll climb down from the Hampta Pass today. What awaits you is the stark and overwhelmingly barren landscape of the Spiti Valley. That, along with the massive Pir Panjal range accompanies you till you reach Chatru. You'll board vehicles here and will be driven to Chandratal lake. Said to be Himachal's answer to Ladakh's Pangong Lake, Chandratal lake has deep blue water and is surrounded by the reddish mountains of Lahaul Spiti. You'll camp about few kms away from the lake for the night.

Day 5: Drive to Manali via Rohtang Pass

After admiring the beauty of Chandratal lake in the morning, you'll eat a hearty breakfast and board vehicles to take you back to Manali. Your drive is a scenic one along winding mountain roads, through Rohtang Pass, and into Manali. Trip ends in Manali.
