    This 8-day road trip to secluded destinations in the Spiti Valley combines sightseeing trips to monasteries with a road trip on winding roads etched into dark grey mountains. You will visit the famed monasteries of Key, Tabo and Dhankar to revel in the centuries-old Buddhist art and architecture. You will stay with local villagers at the charming towns of Kaza and Langza to experience the Himachali lifestyle. You will spend a night camping under star-studded skies on the banks of the celestial Chandratal Lake. From cold rivers that turn into gushing waterfalls to snow clad mountains that touch the sky, this expedition through Spiti Valley is guaranteed to give you plenty of memorable experiences.

    Located deep in the Indian Himalayas of north-eastern Himachal Pradesh, the Spiti Valley sits at the intersection of India and Tibet. Rife with the rich Indo-Tibetan culture, the valley is home to historic monasteries that are renowned houses of worship for Buddhists all around the world.

    During this road trip, you will embark on an itinerary that combines sightseeing trips to such monasteries with a journey through the stark and imposing landscapes of Spiti. You will travel through high-altitude mountain passes offering breathtaking views to explore quaint villages brimming with local tradition and hospitality.

    Rules on the trip

    Travellers are required to follow instructions of the tour guide during the Spiti Valley road trip.

    Consumption of alcohol and drugs is strictly prohibited during the trip. Travellers suspected of intoxication will not be allowed to participate in the trip.

    Travellers are requested to treat the local culture with respect and avoid littering, defacing property and monuments and causing general disturbance.

    Cancellation policy

    For cancellations made more than 45 days before departure of the Spiti Valley road trip: 90% refund.

    For cancellations made between 16-45 days before departure of the Spiti Valley road trip: 80% refund.

    For cancellations made between 8-15 days before departure of the Spiti Valley road trip: 75% refund.

    For cancellations made between 4-7 days before departure of the Spiti Valley road trip: 50% refund.

    For cancellations made less than 4 days before departure of the Spiti Valley road trip: no refund.

    In case of show: no refund.

    All refunds will be processed after deducting a transaction fee of INR 200 per person. This fee is charged by The Great Next.

    Spiti Valley is located at an altitude with low internet connectivity and moderate road access/availability of services. Travellers are advised to take such circumstances under consideration before booking this Spiti Valley road trip.

    The tour operator takes utmost care to ensure safety of the travellers and shall not be held responsible for any mishap or accident during the trip.

    The tour operator reserves the right to change or cancel the itinerary of this trip due to bad weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances to ensure maximum safety of travellers and staff. Additional costs arising from such a change in the itinerary will be borne by the traveller.

  • Day 1 of the Spiti Valley road trip: Arrive in Manali

    Arrive in Manali and check into a pre-booked hotel. Here, you'll have a short briefing session conducted by your tour guide. This orientation offers details on your upcoming itinerary and introduces your fellow travellers. You can spend the rest of the day at leisure. Rest in your hotel rooms or head out to explore local attractions in Manali. Overnight in a hotel at Manali.

    Day 2 of the Spiti Valley road trip: Manali to Kaza

    With an early morning start, you'll begin your road trip and leave for Kaza, the largest town in Spiti. En route, you'll cross the popular Rohtang Pass. The landscape begins changing from lush, green forests to wild, barren mountains. While travelling, you'll take frequent halts at villages like Batal and Chatru to take in the beautiful mountain views. Overnight in a hotel or guesthouse at Kaza.

    Day 3 of the Spiti Valley road trip: Day trip to Key and Kibber

    After a lazy morning, you'll explore Kaza and take a walk along the scenic Spiti River. In the afternoon, head out from Kaza to visit the ancient Key Gompa, a hilltop monastery and home to over 100 monks that follow the Geluk sect of Buddhism. Continue from Key and proceed onward to the Kibber village, one of the highest inhabited villages in the world. From Kibber, you can go on a short hike to the Chicham Bridge and return to Kaza by late evening. Overnight in a hotel or guesthouse at Kaza.

    Day 4 of the Spiti Valley road trip: Day trip to Tabo and Dhankar

    Today, you'll drive out from Kaza and visit the Dhankar Gompa, a cliff-top monastery that overlooks the confluence of Spiti and Pin rivers. You can also embark an a short optional trek to the Dhankar Lake. Continue onwards towards Tabo. Here, you'll visit the historic Tabo Monastery, home to murals and paintings that radiate the local Indo-Tibetan culture. You can also embark on a short optional trek to the mediation caves at Tabo. Return to Kaza by late evening. Overnight in a hotel or guesthouse at Kaza.

    Day 5 of the Spiti Valley road trip: Kaza to Langza via Hikkim, Komic

    Check-out from Kaza and travel to the nearby village of Langza, known as the fossil village of India. En route, visit the villages of Komic and Hikkim. At Hikkim, you can send a postcard to your loved ones back home from the highest post office in the world. At Komic, you can visit the local monastery and explore one of the highest inhabited villages in the world. If you're interested, you can also embark on a short optional trek from Langza to Komic. Overnight in a home-stay at Langza.

    Day 6 of the Spiti Valley road trip: Langza to Chandratal Lake

    After a lazy morning, you'll drive out from Langza and take the highway towards the Chandratal Lake. This crescent-shaped lake is a sight to behold in the beauty of gorgeous Spitian hills. Inaccessible via road, the lake can be reached only with a short 30-min trek. Tonight, you'll stay in cosy Swiss tents pitched under a hundred twinkling stars of the night sky. Overnight in Swiss tents at Chandratal Lake.

    Day 7 of the Spiti Valley road trip: Chandratal Lake to Manali

    Begin your return journey from Chandratal Lake to Manali. En route, you'll bid goodbye to the Spiti Valley and re-enter the lush, green forests of the hill-station. You can stop at the Rohtang Pass to enjoy the view and click some pictures. Celebrate the end of the road trip with your fellow travellers at Manali. Overnight in a hotel at Manali.

    Check-out from the hotel in Manali and proceed to your next destination. Your Spiti Valley road trip ends here.

    Spend your night at Kaza in a cozy and rustic twin sharing home stay. Today's package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast will be at the village of Gramphoo. Lunch will be at Batal at the famous Chandra Dhaba that has often served as shelter for travellers trapped in Spiti due to bad weather conditions.

    Overnight at Kaza in home stay.

    Spend your night at Kaza in a cozy and rustic twin sharing home stay. Today's package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lunch will be a packed, picnic lunch on the banks of the Spiti river.

    Day 4 of the Spiti Valley road trip: Day trip to Tabo and Dhankar
