  • Trip introduction

    This 4-day trek to the three forts of Alang, Madan and Kulang is one of the toughest in the Sahyadri range. You will be passing through the dense forested area that makes this trail so hard, as well as scrambling over rocky pathways, climbing over rocks, and sleeping in caves at night. It's a true experience of the wilderness of the mighty Sahyadri. Adding to the challenge, you'll have to be prepared for cold weather during the night.

    Destination

    The trek to Alang, Madan and Kulang forts takes four days, during which you will be in one of the most difficult regions of the Sahyadri ranges. The slopes leading up to the fort are covered with forests. There are steep sections that require rock-climbing, and tricky narrow paths that need to be navigated carefully. As you trek, you'll discover ancient temples, natural water bodies, and mysterious caves. You can expect some gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, and some delightful chilly nights.

    Rules on the trip

    Travellers are required to adhere to the instructions of the trek leader during the trek to Alang, Madan and Kulang.

    Travellers are requested to treat the local culture with respect and avoid littering, defacing property and monuments and causing general disturbance.

    Consumption of liquor, drugs, tobacco products and cigarettes is strictly prohibited during the trek to Alang, Madan and Kulang.

    Cancellation policy

    For cancellations made 3 days or more before departure of the Alang, Madan and Kulang trek: 50% refund.

    For cancellations made 0-3 days before departure of the Alang, Madan and Kulang trek: No refund.

    All refunds will be processed after deducting any transaction charges.

    A moderate level of health and fitness is required to book this trek to Alang, Madan and Kulang. If you have any cardiac or respiratory conditions, or suffer from knee or spinal problems, please inform the tour operator and consult your doctor before booking the trek to Alang, Madan and Kulang.

    Travellers will be required to bear any additional costs arising due to unforeseen circumstances such as bad weather, road blocks etc.

  • Day 1 of the trek to Alang, Madan and Kulang: Depart from Mumbai

    Catch the 22:50 hrs local train from Mumbai CST to Kasara. Overnight in transit.

    Day 2 of the trek to Alang, Madan and Kulang: Explore Alang and Madan

    You'll meet the trek leader and your fellow trekkers at 01:30 hrs in the morning, near ticket counter 01 of the Kasara railway station. With the group, you'll travel to the base village at Ambewadi. It's about 04:00 hrs when you reach, so you'll have a couple of hours to sleep before dawn breaks. Wake up by 06:00 hrs, and eat a hearty breakfast. You'll have an orientation session, and then the trek begins by 07:30 hrs. You'll take the route towards Madan fort, which involves a rocky patch of climbing. At the top, you'll eat lunch and relax for a while. You will descend from here, and take the route towards Alang fort. At the top, you'll stop for the day. You'll eat dinner and head to the caves to go to sleep. Overnight at Alang in caves.

    Day 3 of the trek to Alang, Madan and Kulang: Explore Kulang

    You'll wake up early and enjoy breakfast at the top of the fort. You have some time to explore Alang fort. After this, you'll set out for Kulang. You'll eat lunch en route, and reach Kulang by late evening. Here, you'll eat dinner and retire for the night to the caves. Overnight at Kulang in caves.

    Day 4 of the trek to Alang, Madan and Kulang: Depart for Mumbai

    It's another early morning today and you'll wake up at 06:30 hrs. After breakfast, you have time to explore Kulang fort. When the team is ready, you will start your descent from the Kulang fort to Ambewadi. Have a hot lunch at Ambewadi and start your journey back to Kasara in a vehicle. Your trip ends here.

  • Day 1 of the trek to Alang, Madan and Kulang: Depart from Mumbai

    The night will be spent in the train and the bus.

    Tonight you'll depart from Mumbai by train, and reach Kasara at 01:30. You'll be transported to Ambewadi, and can sleep there for two hours before the day begins. No meals are provided during transport, so please do carry your own snacks.

    Day 2 of the trek to Alang, Madan and Kulang: Explore Alang and Madan

    Overnight in caves.

    You'll be spending the night in caves. You'll have to carry your own sleeping bag and mats. Breakfast, lunch, evening tea, and dinner will be provided.

    Day 3 of the trek to Alang, Madan and Kulang: Explore Kulang

    You'll be spending the night in caves. You'll have to carry your own sleeping bag and mats. Breakfast, lunch, evening tea, and dinner will be provided.

    Day 4 of the trek to Alang, Madan and Kulang: Depart for Mumbai

    Trip ends before nightfall.

    Today you'll be provided with breakfast. After this, you have a few hours of trekking to Ambewadi village. Here you'll have a hot lunch (not included in trip cost), and then you'll be transported back to Kasara. The trip ends here, and you'll proceed to Mumbai.
