Trek through the lush tropical wilderness of the Western Ghats on this jungle trail to Andharban. This trek is unique as the start point of the trek is also the highest point. The trek is a complete downhill walk with little ascents along the way. Due to the cover of thick trees, the atmosphere in the jungle is cold, even in summer. In monsoon, you will see many natural pools, Devkund waterfall and also visit Tamhini Ghat on the way to Bhira dam, the endpoint of the trek.
Though the Andharban jungle trail is easy, the trail is mostly downhill, so travellers are recommended to wear appropriate trekking shoes to avoid slipping.
The Andharban Jungle is in Tamhini Ghat, which is about 130 km from Mumbai. You will leave from Mumbai at night so that you can start the trek early in the morning. The start point is Pimpri Dam, which is actually closer to Pune, just a short drive of about 50 km for Pune trekkers.
The Andharban forest is filled with tropical flowers, thick trees, and lots of exotic birds and butterflies. During monsoon, the rainwater flows down into the valley, creating waterfalls and pools all along the trekking route. You'll pass numerous vantage points, so look out for views of the Kundalika Valley, Devkund waterfall and Tamhini Ghat.
