Go trekking in the lush tropical wilderness of the Western Ghats on this jungle trail to Andharban. This trek is unique as the start point of the trek is also the highest point. The trek is almost completely downhill with little ascents along the way, and is long walk through the dense forest. Due to the cover of thick trees, the climate is cool even in summer. In monsoon, you will see many natural pools, Devkund waterfall and also visit Tamhini Ghat on the way to Bhira dam, the endpoint of the trek.
Though the Andharban jungle trail is easy, the trail is mostly downhill, so travellers are recommended to wear appropriate trekking shoes to avoid slipping.
The Andharban forest is filled with tropical flowers, thick trees, and lots of exotic birds and butterflies. During monsoon, the rainwater flows down into the valley, creating waterfalls and pools all along the trekking route. You'll pass numerous vantage points, so look out for views of the Kundalika Valley, Devkund waterfall and Tamhini Ghat.
The Andharban trek is in Tamhini Ghat, which is about 130 km from Mumbai. You will leave from Mumbai at night so that you can start the trek early in the morning. The start point is Pimpri Dam, which is actually closer to Pune, just a short drive of about 50 km for Pune trekkers.

Board the bus from Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Borivali by 22:00. You will spend overnight in the bus, so do not forget to carry a blanket or jacket. You can also carry some dry snacks, as it will a long ride. You'll reach the base village by early morning.
