The Barefoot Group was founded in 2002 by Mr. Susheel Dixit, Deepak Govind, Samit Sawhny, Ashish Gupta and Siddharth Krishnamurthy. Barefoot created the first resort, Barefoot at Havelock, ran the first international flights, built the first star rated beach resort, set up the first PADI 5-star dive and instructor development center and was the first to market the Andaman Islands at trade shows in India and overseas. Barefoot aims to ensure that its pioneering legacy and early market leadership is sustained through continuous quality improvement and hopes to open new resorts and upgrade existing ones to remain a key driver of growth for high-end, sustainable tourism for the Andaman Islands.
We do receive various awards every year from bookings websites such as TripAdvisor. We also receive awards from PADI every year. | Our key achievements are: | First instructor training center in India | Largest number of PADI certifications issued (year after year) | Participation in movies/documentaries/advertisement shooting, etc. | Overall we can say that Barefoot Scuba has been for the past 10 years one of the leading dive centers (with another 2 or 3) that has helped promote Scuba Diving in India, and push toward a responsible and standardized way of operating.
Eco Best Practices
As a 100% AWARE dive center, we work in partnership with the AWARE project (Aquatic World Awareness Responsibility & Education). For each student completing a certification course with us, Barefoot Scuba is donating funds to this NGO. We are also working hand in hand with local NGOs such as ANETT or Dakshin, helping them monitor the reefs and providing them with data that is then used for their research. Our main role when it comes to ecology is educational: all courses emphasize the importance of respecting our environment, and since all the dive staff are nature lovers they are very much inclined in teaching the same.
