Manali is a popular tourist destination and the start point of many treks in Himachal Pradesh. It is easily accessible by road from Delhi and other destinations in India.
This short 4 days trek takes you from Manali, into the lower hills of the Himalayas, to the source of the River Beas, the Beas Kund. This green lake is named after Rishi Byas, who was said to have meditated and bathed here. When you reach the lake, you'll feel rather meditative yourself. You'll be surrounded by silence, except for the distant rumbling of rocks moving in the mountains. This is an easy trek, and it takes you to an altitude of about 12,000 feet.
Lying at an altitude of 12000 feet, this icy lake is nestled in the midst of moutains, accessible only via sprawling meadows. You'll leave the bustle of Manali behind, and trek slowly up into the silent mountains, where there's nobody around for miles. The grass up here is sweet, so you might meet a solitary shepherd with his flock sometimes. As you go above the tree line, the conifer trees turn into shrubs and rocky trails, and finally, the blinding whiteness of the icy landscape where the Beas Kund is situated.
