    On this trek to Bhimashankar, you'll embark on one of the more challenging treks in Maharashtra, and visit the famous Bhimashankar temple. En route, you'll navigate your way across a steep mountain, with several waterfalls and slippery boulders along the way. During your ascent, you'll trek via the Shidi Ghat to reach the top, but you'll descend via the Ganesh Ghat. This takes you across a whole different set of vantage points overlooking the vast plains to the west. With views of vast grasslands, interrupted only by the ragged terrain of hills, the trekker is immensely compensated for completing the Bhimashankar trek.

    Since the trek involves a moderately challenging route, the Bhimashankar trek is recommended only to trekkers with some prior experience.

    Located inside the Bhimashankar Wildlife Reserve, 30 kms away from Karjat and Matheran, your destination of Bhimashankar is widely known as the home of a holy shrine. However, since the small village sits atop the Western Ghats at 3,500 feet, it is even more popular among avid trekkers as one of the more demanding monsoon treks of Maharashtra. Showcasing some of the best scenic delights of the Sahyadri, the trekking route to Bhimashankar is packed with forests, waterfalls and river streams, providing ample rewards for completing the trek.

  • Trek to Bhimashankar!

    Arrive at the Karjat railway station by 01:15 hrs. The railway station is accessible via frequent local trains from Mumbai and frequent outstation trains from Pune. At Karjat, you'll board a private vehicle and arrive at Khandas, where you'll take some time to rest. At the crack of dawn, begin trekking on a route that'll take you across the Shidi Ghat to arrive at Bhimashankar after an exhausting 5-hr trek. Visit the famous temple and spend some exploring the small village at Bhimashankar.

    By early afternoon, begin your descent back to Khandas via a separate route through the Ganesh Ghat. Once you arrive, you'll be driven back to Karjat. You'll arrive at Karjat railway station by 19:15 hrs. Your trip ends here.

    Your trip begins as you arrive at the Karjat railway station by 01:15 hrs. Travel to the base village of Khandas will be arranged in a private vehicle. Today's meal package includes breakfast, served at the base village before beginning the trek, and lunch, served upon reaching Bhimashankar. Your trip ends as you arrive back at Karjat railway station by 19:15 hrs.

    Travellers from Mumbai may board the local train to Karjat departing CSMT railway station by 23:18 hrs, on the previous day, and arrive at Karjat railway station by 01:15 hrs.

    Travellers from Pune may board the Chennai-Mumbai mail express departing Pune railway station by 23:00 hrs, on the previous day, and arrive at Karjat railway station by 01:15 hrs.

    Tardiness is arriving at the pick-up point will lead to missing the trek, without any refund.

    The tour operator reserves the right to cancel or alter the itinerary of the trek to Bhimashankar to maximize the safety of travellers as well as staff.

    Travellers will be required to bear any additional costs arising due to unforeseen circumstances such as bad weather, road blocks etc.
