  • Trip introduction

The Bhimashankar trek is one one of the the most iconic in Maharashtra. It takes you up a trail through a forest, up to the Bhimashankar plateau which is dotted with waterfalls, streams, and a sacred temple. You'll also visit Bhorgiri Fort, which lies just beneath the plateau. The fort has 17 water tanks at the top so you'll have plenty to explore.

This is a moderately challenging trek, and involves steep climbs, some rock climbing, and navigating slippery slopes and rock surfaces.

The Bhimashankar trek is one of the most popular trails in the Sahyadris, not just for trekkers, but for worshippers of Lord Shiva who trek to the ancient shrine at the top. As a forest reserve, this area is filled with wonderful plants, birds, insects and animals, including the rare Malabar Giant Squirrel. As rainwater drains off the plateau, there are multiple waterfalls in your view, caves to explore in Bhorgiri, and plenty of scenic photo opportunities.
