  • Trip introduction

    This trek to Brahmatal is perfect for fit beginners and those who are looking for a fun trek that offers some challenges. Some of the slopes on this trek are steep, but it'll be worth it. This trek itinerary takes you to both Bekaltal and Brahmatal, and lets you camp just 500 metres from Brahmatal lake.

    The Brahmatal trek is a favourite snow trek in Uttarakhand. During these months, the snowfall covers the landscape in a blanket of white, and Brahmatal gleams like a mirror in the midst of it. It will take your breath away, and give you a chance to enjoy the full snow experience.

    Destination

    Located at an altitude of 12,618 feet, Brahmatal is a scenic alpine lake with stunning views all around. The trail leads upwards through forests of oak, pine, rhododendron and maple trees, which means you'll enjoy some blissful hours of trekking amidst nature. You'll also cross small streams, pass through charming villages, and stop to gaze in awe at the peaks of Kamet, Nanda Ghunti, Trishul and Nanda Devi.

    Rules on the trip

    Participants must adhere to the instructions of the trip leader/guide at all times during the trek to Brahmatal.

    Consumption of alcoholic beverages/drugs and cigarettes during the trek to Brahmatal is strictly prohibited.

    Cancellation policy

    For any cancellations made 24 days prior to the departure of the trek to Brahmatal: 95% of the total trip cost will be refunded or you can book any other trek within a year.

    For cancellations made 14-24 days before the departure of the trek to Brahmatal: 70% of the total trip cost will be refunded or you can choose to go for the same trek with any other batch within a year.

    For any cancellations made between 10-14 days before the departure of the trek to Brahmatal: 50% of the total trip cost will be refunded or you can choose to go on the same trek in the same season.

    For cancellations made less than 10 days before the departure of the trek to Brahmatal: No refund, but you can transfer the trek to your friend.

    Additional instructions, booking policies, terms and conditions

    The operator reserves the right to change/cancel the plans for the trek to Brahmatal without prior notice, if deemed necessary. No arguments or refunds will be entertained.

    Any event cost for the trek to Brahmatal does not include any kind of insurances or medical coverage/benefits.

    Your vehicle from Kathgodam to Lohajung will accommodate 7-8 passengers.

    In case of transferring a trek to a friend, he/she should satisfy all the mandatory requirements of the operator.

    Participants will only be able to change their dates/batch of the trek depending on the seats available.

  • Day 1 of the trek to Brahmatal: Drive to Lohajung

    Arrive at Kathgodam railway station by 06:00 hours. You'll be driven to Lohajung along a scenic route that takes you through Almora, Kausani, Bhimtal Lake and Baijnath with the Himalayan peaks towering in the distance. You'll reach Lohanjung by evening and can take a short walk in the market before you retire for the night. Dinner and overnight stay in guesthouse or homestay.

    Day 2 of the trek to Brahmatal: Trek to Bekaltal

    You'll wake up early for the first day of your Brahmatal trek. After a filling breakfast, you'll set off on an upward trail that leads into a forest. You’ll reach Mandoli village, from where you'll be able to see the union of the Kali and Pindari rivers. You’ll trek farther through rhododendron trees and over a bridge. You'll stop to admire the many streams and meadows around, and finally reach Bekaltal, the first lake of your trek. The lake is usually frozen in parts, and is a lovely end to your first day of your trek. You'll be staying in tents on the banks of nearby Khopdaliya Lake.

    Day 3 of the trek to Brahmatal: Trek to Brahmatal

    Today you'll trek onwards to Brahmatal, through forests of oak trees to a high view point from where you'll be able to see the snow-capped peaks stretched as far as the eye can see. Brahmatal is a short descent away, and you'll spend the evening there. By dusk, your campsite is set up about 500 metres away, and you'll enjoy a peaceful night with the stars and snowy peaks around.

    Day 4 of the trek to Brahmatal: Trek to Brahmatal Pass

    Today, after breakfast, you'll start with a visit to see Brahmatal in the morning light. The sight will take your breath away, and you'll spend some time here. After that, you'll ascend a windng trail towards Brahmatal Pass. From the pass, you'll get the best views of of the Himalayas. After that, you'll descend to Tilbudi, a clearing in the forest where your campsite will be set up. Overnight stay in tents.

    Day 5 of the trek to Brahmatal: Descend to Lohajung

    You’ll wake up in the middle of the forest, with lovely views to accompany your last campsite breakfast. You'll begin with an easy descent to Wan village, a charming little place nestled in the midst of the mountains. From here, you'll board the vehicles to Lohajung. It's a short ride of about 30 minutes, and you'll be at your guesthouse or homestay by late evening. Enjoy a hot dinner before retiring for the night. Overnight stay in guesthouse/ homestay.

    Day 6 of the trek to Brahmatal: Drive to Kathgodam

    Today after checkout, you'll be driven back to Kathgodam. It's a long day's drive, winding through tiny hamlets and scenic views on both sides. You’ll reach Kathgodam railway station by 18:00 hours. Your trip ends here.

  • Day 1 of the trek to Brahmatal: Drive to Lohajung

    Overnight in guesthouse or homestay.

    You'll be driven from Kathgodam to Lohajung today and will reach Lohajung only in the evening. Do carry light snacks and a water bottle. No meals are provided during transit, however, you will halt for lunch in the afternoon and can order and pay for your own meal. You'll be served dinner at your homestay/guesthouse in Kathgodam before retiring to your rooms. Your accommodation is on twin/triple sharing and you'll be provided with bedsheets and pillows.

    Day 2 of the trek to Brahmatal: Trek to Bekaltal

    Overnight stay in alpine tents.

    You'll start your trek to Bekaltal after a filling breakfast and you'll carry a packed meal for lunch. You'll reach Bekaltal early in the evening where your tents are already set up. You'll be sleeping in twin/triple sharing alpine tents with camping mattresses and sleeping bags. Your campsite also has a toilet tent and a kitchen and dining tent. You'll enjoy a freshly prepared camp meal for dinner before you retire for the night.

    Day 3 of the trek to Brahmatal: Trek to Brahmatal

    Overnight stay in alpine tents.

    You'll eat breakfast at camp before beginning your trek to Brahmatal. You'll carry a packed lunch for the afternoon. Your campsite is set at a picturesque location not too far from Brahmatal. You'll be sleeping in twin/triple sharing alpine tents with camping mattresses and sleeping bags. Your campsite also has a toilet tent and a kitchen and dining tent. You'll enjoy a freshly prepared camp meal for dinner before you retire for the night.

    Day 4 of the trek to Brahmatal: Trek to Brahmatal Pass

    Overnight stay in alpine tents.

    You'll trek to Brahmatal Pass today and after that you'll descend to Tilbudi. You'll eat a hearty breakfast at camp and will carry a packed lunch for the afternoon. You'll be camping in a clearing in the forest, and will be sleeping in twin/triple sharing alpine tents with camping mattresses and sleeping bags. Your campsite also has a toilet tent and a kitchen and dining tent. You'll enjoy a freshly prepared camp meal for dinner before you retire for the night.

    Day 5 of the trek to Brahmatal: Descend to Lohajung

    Overnight stay in guesthouse or homestay.

    Today you'll return to civilization. You'll eat a delicious breakfast at camp, and then begin your descent to Wan. From here, you'll be driven to Lohajung. You'll be carrying a packed meal for lunch and will eat dinner at the guesthouse/homestay. You'll be staying in twin/triple/multi sharing rooms.

    Day 6 of the trek to Brahmatal: Drive to Kathgodam

    Your trip ends before nightfall.

    No meals are included in the package today. After checkout, you'll be driven from Lohajung to Kathgodam and should reach Kathgodam by 18:00 hours. Your trip ends here.
