Trek to Brahmatal

The Brahmatal trek is a gorgeous 6-day adventure that takes you to the high-altitude, Himalayan lakes of Bekaltal and Brahmatal. You'll spend hours every day trekking across mountain ridges with dense woods. En route, you'll breath in the stunning beauty of Uttarakhand's mountains, rivers and forests. At night, you'll stay in tents pitched besides the clear and still waters of the alpine lakes. In the months of winter, the Brahmatal landscape turns white with heavy snow, allowing you to get better views of the snowy mountain slopes and pine trees. Another highlight of the trek to Brahmatal, you'll trek to Brahmatal top to get breathtaking views of higher Himalayan peaks like Kamet, Ghori Parvat, Hathi Parvath, Trishul and many more.

Destination

Perched atop the mountains at over 12,100 feet, the Brahmatal lake is named after Lord Brahma who is said to have meditated on the banks of the lake. Surrounded by Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, the Brahmatal lake is surrounded by dense woods on three sides with a small camping area on the fourth. It is located just a 2-hr trek away from Brahmatal top, a mountain peak allowing views of snow-stormed peaks in the higher Himalayas.

Arrive at the town of Kathgodam. Here, you'll meet a representative of the tour operator who will drive you to the base camp of the Brahmatal trek, Lohajung. Most of today will be spent driving across the mountainous terrain of Uttarakhand, past the scenic hill stations like Bhimtal, Almora and many more. Lohajung has a small, local marketplace you can visit in the evening. Overnight in a guesthouse at Lohajung.

Report at Kathgodam and travel to Lohajung in a private, shared jeep or similar vehicle. The town, located in remote corner of the mountains, serves as a base camp for many treks such as the Roopkund trek, Bedni Bugyal trek and the Brahmatal trek. You'll be accommodated in a guesthouse at Lohajung. Today's meal package includes lunch and dinner only. You may have additional meals at restaurants and eateries en route to Lohajung at your own expense.

Begin the trek from Lohajung, along a route that trails a mountain ridge taking you higher up into the mountains with every step. You'll trek under the cover of lush greenery all around, with multiple vantage points that offer views of snow-capped mountains on the horizon. Bekaltal, a tiny lake in a bowl-shaped depression in the mountains with a small camping ground, is your destination for the day. Overnight in tents at Bekaltal.

Trek from Lohajung to Bekaltal. You'll be accommodated in tents at Bekaltal. You'll also be given clean and comfortable sleeping bags and mattresses for a restful night's sleep. Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Wake up to the morning sun rising over the Bekaltal Lake. Today, you'll trek to Brahmatal on a fairly flat route with scenic views of Uttarakhand's charming mountains. You'll arrive at Brahmatal after a short trek. The lake, surrounded by woods of oak and pine on three sides and a camping ground on the fourth, can give you stunning views with forests reflected in the still waters. Overnight in tents at Brahmatal.

Trek from Bekaltal to Brahmatal. You'll be accommodated in tents at Brahmatal. The campsite will have a dry-pit style washroom tent. Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. The campsite is equipped with common kitchen/dining tent for the camping crew to prepare and serve meals.

Bekaltal

Spend the day at leisure in the Brahmatal campsite. Beginning from the lake, you'll take a day trek to a nearby peak. Trekking over a route over the mountain ridge, you'll arrive at a vast and sprawling grassland near the summit. From here, you can get views of the snow-capped Mt. Trishul and Mt. Nandaghunti. Make your way back to Brahmatal by late afternoon. Overnight in tents at Brahmatal.

Spend the day at Brahmatal and go on a day trek to a nearby peak. Throughout the trek, you'll be accompanied by an experienced trek leader and a camping crew including porters, cooks and helpers. You'll be accommodated in tents at Brahmatal. Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Return from Brahmatal to Lohajung over an entirely descending and easy trail. You'll retrace your steps over the familiar route and climb down mountain slopes and boulders to reach Lohajung. Although it takes so many more hours while ascending, you can cover this stretch of the trek in considerably lesser time while descending. Overnight in a guesthouse at Lohajung.

Trek from Brahmatal to Lohajung. You'll be accommodated in guesthouses at Lohajung. Due to its remote location, availability of services in Lohajung is basic and limited. Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Board a jeep or similar vehicle back to Kathgodam. You'll bid goodbye to the mountains of Uttarakhand on the drive back to Kathgodam. You'll arrive in the town by evening. Your trip ends here.

Cancellation policy

For cancellations made more than 15 days before departure of the Brahmatal trek: 100% refund.

For cancellations made 8-15 days before departure of the Brahmatal trek: 75% refund.

For cancellations made 3-7 days before departure of the Brahmatal trek: 50% refund.

For cancellations made less than 3 days before departure of the Brahmatal trek: no refund.

In case of no show: no refund.

All cancellations will be processed after deducting a transaction fee of INR 200 per person. This fee is charged by The Great Next.

Rules on trip

Travellers are requested to treat the local culture with respect and avoid littering, defacing property and monuments and causing general disturbance.

Travellers are required to follow instructions of the trek leader during the trek to Brahmatal.

Consumption of alcohol and drugs is prohibited during the trek. Consumption of tobacco products and cigarettes is not recommended.

Additional instructions, booking policies, terms and conditions

Travellers are requested to be punctual in reporting at the Kathgodam railway station at 06:00 hrs on day 1. Travellers will be dropped back at Kathgodam railway station by 18:00 hrs on day 6.

The tour operator reserves the right to change or cancel the itinerary of this trip due to bad weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances to ensure maximum safety of travellers and staff. Travellers are required to bear any additional costs arising due to such a change in itinerary.

The tour operator takes utmost care to ensure safety of the travellers and shall not be held responsible for any mishap, accident or loss of life during the trek to Brahmatal.
