  • Trip introduction

    High up on a ridge overlooking a sea of mountains, where clouds catch on the peaks every now and then, lies this idyllic campsite. Camp Purple is a dreamer's paradise, named after the colour of the clouds at sunset. With the sleepy town of Mukteshwar nearby, meadows to lie in, fruit trees waiting to be plucked, and lush forest paths to explore, this provides a perfect mix of beauty and adventure. You can amp up the adrenaline here with a session of rappelling or rock-climbing, or you could slow it down on a light day hike, or go waterfall bathing. It's your paradise to explore as you choose.

    Destination

    Located in Mukteshwar, high in the Kumaon hills, this camp is an idyllic getaway. Unparalleled sunsets and sunrises and unhindered views of the Himalayas from the ridge make this a coveted camping destination. In the spring months, the orchards around the campsite blossom with gorgeous flowers, turning to luscious peaches and plums as the summer months come along. During winter, the morning mists lie low on the mountains, turning all shades from baby pink to blazing reds and purple.

    You'll be staying in American safari tents, equipped with cots, mattresses, blankets/sleeping bags, and lamps.

    This is a camping trip with voluntary adventure activities. If you have cardiac or respiratory conditions, or spine or knee problems, please consult your doctor before booking.

    Fine print

    Rules on the trip

    This is a forest area and is close to local villages. Music on speakers is not allowed. However, if you want to bring guitars or musical instruments for singing sessions, that will be welcomed.

    All activities are moderated by an instructor where necessary. If the instructor deems you unfit for an activity, please abide by the decision.

    Please note that this is a wilderness getaway. You'll be using rustic lamps and enjoying evenings in the light of the bonfire. However, the common areas at camp have electricity and charging points.

    Cancellation policy

    For cancellations made 30 days before the check-in date: Full refund.

    For cancellations made 15-30 days before the check-in date: 90% of total trip cost will be refunded.

    For cancellations made 7-15 days before the check-in date: 75% of the total trip cost will be refunded.

    For cancellations made 0-7 days before the check-in date: 50% of the total cost of the trip will be refunded.

    Additional instructions, booking policies, terms and conditions

    Children below the age of 5 years stay for free.

    Children between 6-12 years will be charged INR 1500 per day.

    Senior citizens (above 55 years of age) can claim a discount of 20% off on the total cost of the trip. Please contact The Great Next for prices and payment.

    All adventure activities included in the trip are optional, but customers will not be refunded for any activities they do not participate in.

    The operator reserves the right to cancel or postpone any bookings if the weather is not fit, or it is deemed unsafe due to any reason.

  • Day 1: Camping in Mukteshwar

    You can check in to the campsite in time to enjoy your lunch at this gorgeous campsite. After you settle into your tents, you'll have the whole day free to do as you please. Enjoy a day in the outdoors, go for a hike, or try your hand at rappelling and rock-climbing on the imposing overhanging cliffs nearby. In the evening, make sure you grab a front seat view for a spectacular display of the sun as it sets in the Himalayas. Huddle around a campfire in the evening, and then dig into a dinner that will have you licking your fingers. After that, it's lights out in this mountain camp. Overnight in tents.

    Day 2: Camping in Mukteshwar

    For another visual treat, wake up before the crack of dawn and you will be rewarded with a stunning sunrise. Fuel up with a hearty breakfast and time to go fruit picking or walk through the blossoming orchards. Take a dip in the cool pool beneath the waterfall, and spend the rest of the day lying on the sweet grass in the meadows, or exploring the tiny paths in the forest. In the evening, it's bonfire time. And after that, you head to your tents for a peaceful sleep.

    Day 3: Camping in Mukteshwar

    It's your last day at this gorgeous campsite. Spend a peaceful half hour walking through the wild, and enjoy a delicious breakfast. After that, it's time to check out. Trip ends here.

    You'll check in to your campsite and be shown to your accommodation. The campsite has common toilet cabins (with flush loos) that are installed some distance from the tents, as well as shower tents, wash basins and running water. For meals, you'll be eating at a common dining area, in the open air. The food cooked here is delicious and made from fresh ingredients as much as possible.

    You'll have the whole day to explore this gorgeous campsite. All meals are included in your package today, from breakfast to dinner. You can check out anytime you want, or wait until after dinner to leave for your next destination.
