Camping at Rajmachi

Escape into the lush landscape of the Sahyadris with this exciting camping in Rajmachi trip. On this adventure, you not only get to spend the night in tents under the cover of the starry skies but also spend the next morning trekking to the Rajmachi Fort. You follow a trail through rich forests to reach the two forts of Shrivardhan and Manaranjan, and explore their historic ruins. And you also get to indulge in some local cuisine while camping.

NOTE: A jeep is arranged for travel between Lonavala and Udhewadi, but if the road is not motorable, then you will be required to walk 8 km to the base village.

Perched amidst the folds of the Western Ghats, the Rajmachi Fort sits at an altitude of 2,700 feet and dates back to the 17th century. The fort has seen its fair share of history and has now become a popular destination for trekkers and nature lovers near Mumbai and Pune. And at the foot of the fort lies Udhewadi, acting as the base village of the Rajmachi fort trek and also as the Rajmachi campsite. The forests surrounding the village and the trail uphill flourish with rich flora and fauna, making it perfect for nature getaways for the city dwellers.

You have to report to the Lonavala railway station by 17:30 hrs. Here, you'll meet the operator. Once the entire team has assembled, you'll board the local jeep that will take you to the campsite. Once at the campsite, you'll enjoy a relaxing bonfire session followed by a hot dinner. You'll then retire into your tents for the night.

You will reach the base camp near Rajmachi Fort by 20:00 hrs. Dinner will be served at the campsite. You'll spend the night in tents. Please carry a blanket for overnight use since sleeping bags will not be provided.

Today, you'll wake up to a gorgeous sunrise. You'll freshen up and feast on some breakfast. Post breakfast, you'll trek to the Rajmachi Fort, and explore the historic ruins of the Manaranjan and Shrivardhan forts.

You'll then return to the campsite, enjoy a filling lunch and prepare to head back. You'll board the jeep that will take you to the Lonavala railway station by 16:30 hrs. Your Rajmachi camping trip ends here.

Your trip ends before nightfall.

Your day will begin with an early breakfast after which you will trek to Rajmachi Fort. Lunch will be served when you return. You'll be dropped back to Lonavala railway station by 16:30 hrs. Your Rajmachi camping trip ends here.

Cancellation policy

For cancellations made more than 8 days before the departure of the Rajmachi camping trip: 75% refund.

For cancellations made 4-7 days before the departure of the Rajmachi camping trip: 50% refund.

For cancellations made less than 3 days before departure of the Rajmachi camping trip: No refund.

In case of no show: No refund.

All refunds will be processed after deducting a transaction fee of INR 200 per person. This fee is charged by The Great Next.

Rules on trip

Travellers are required to adhere to the instructions of the campsite leader during the Rajmachi camping trip.

Consumption of alcohol, drugs, tobacco products and cigarettes is strictly prohibited during the trek.

Travellers are requested to treat the local culture with respect and avoid littering, defacing property and monuments, and causing general disturbance.

Additional instructions, booking policies, terms and conditions

The meeting point for this camping trip in Rajmachi is the Lonavala railway station at 17:10 hrs.

Travellers from Mumbai may board the 14:30 hrs Sinhagad Express from CST that stops at Dadar at 14:41 hrs, Thane at 15:03 hrs, Kalyan at 15:28 hs and Karjat at 16:08 hrs, raching Lonavala at 17:03 hrs.

On the other hand, travellers from Pune may board the 15:00 hrs Pune-Lonavala train from Pune station which stops at Shivaji Nagar at 15:04 hrs and Talegaon at 15:47 hrs, reaching Lonavala at 16:25 hrs.

Please note that sleeping bags will not be provided for the overnight stay in tents. Travellers are requested to carry their own bedsheets or blankets.

Do note that if the road from Lonavala to the base village, Udhewadi, is not motorable, then the participants will have to walk 8 km to the campsite.

The tour operator reserves the right to cancel or alter the itinerary of the fireflies trek to Rajmachi to maximize the safety of travellers as well as staff.

Travellers will be required bear any additional costs arising due to unforeseen circumstances such as bad weather, road blocks etc.
