Camping in Rajasthan

Camping in Rajasthan is an experience unlike any other. Here, you get to experience the tranquillity and stillness of the silent deserts, watch the sand dunes transform with the breeze and see the skies abuzz with stars. And apart from this stark, sun-kissed landscape, you get to explore the heritage of Rajasthan, with its vibrant culture, aromatic cuisine and regal architecture.

You spend your days marking the sands with your footprint, riding a camel to far off villages or conquering sand dunes in powerful jeeps. And once the sun departs behind the vast horizon, you indulge in the traditional dance and music of Rajasthan, warm your feet against the bonfire and sleep in tents rustled by the soft winds, all under the star-studded sky.

Here are the top campsites of Rajasthan:

Camping in Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer is known as the Golden City of Rajasthan due to its sandstone architecture that gives the city a golden glow during the day. And the most popular of the golden architectures is the Jaisalmer Fort, adorned in golden-honey sandstone, standing tall over the city.

Then, there is the famous Sam Sand Dunes here that is a hotspot for many desert adventures in Rajasthan. Jaisalmer is also famous for its sprawling, silent nights graced by the giant moon and the many sparkling stars.

Camping in Pushkar

Pushkar is unlike anything else in Rajasthan. It is the camel capital of India, famous for the annual Camel Fair that takes place there. It is also a major pilgrimage town for Hindus, home to many holy lakes and hundreds of templates that dot the map.

These streets bustle with prayers, bells and drums throughout the day. And surrounding it is the vast Thar Desert that is just as silent. This offers you a camping opportunity that is a splendid blend of the rustic culture and arid beauty of Rajasthan.

Camping in Jodhpur

The historic city of Jodhpur, known as the ‘Blue City of Rajasthan,’ is famous for its blue architecture, imposing palaces and the vibrant markets. Here, you’ll find the blue-lined, scented alleys and many loud markets offering gorgeous handicrafts.

And step out of the old city of Jodhpur and you are treated to the stunning Thar desert where many campsites are pitched. While camping here, you get to explore the old city and watch the Mehrangarh Fort stand imposingly over the city, obstructing the starry sky.

Adventures in Rajasthan: Camel Safari in Rajasthan

One of the must-do things in Rajasthan is the camel safari. This easy-going activity is usually included in the camping packages. On these safaris, you ride camels into the folds of the Thar Desert’s sand dunes, to witness the scorching landscape away from the population.

And on these safaris, you also get to visit many quaint villages that still preserve the rich, rustic heritage of Rajasthan. Here, you experience the warm hospitality that Rajasthan is known for!

Adventures in Rajasthan: Jeep Safari in Rajasthan

And if you are chasing some adrenaline rush, then the jeep safaris are the one for you. You strap in the seats of powerful jeeps that take you over the massive sand dunes of the desert. This adventure not only pushes the limits of the jeep but also lets you experience the unforgiving terrain of the desert.

Adventures in Rajasthan: Hot Air Ballooning in Rajasthan

Rajasthan is also one of the top places to do hot air ballooning in India. Pair your camping trip with ballooning to explore Rajasthan from a seldom-seen view from the sky!

On these balloon safaris, you see the mosaic-like streets leading up to majestic palaces, many shimmering lakes, and the vast desert sprawling towards the horizon while wafting through the air.
