  • Trip introduction

One of the most unique and thrilling treks in India, the Chadar trek takes you over the frozen Zanskar River. You'll spend days walking over the thick sheet of ice that layers the frozen Zanskar River in the icy, cold winters of Ladakh. You'll spend nights camping in tents pitched besides the gurgling flow of the turquoise Zanskar River.

Deep inside the Zanskar gorge, you'll travel through a frozen, frothy and frosty paradise with towering mountain cliffs, frozen waterfalls and arid mountain slopes. The riveting beauty of the Zanskar valley have earned acclaim for the Chadar trek, with breathtaking views of the rugged terrain and stark landscapes at every turn.

    Destination

In the deep interiors of the Ladakhi mountains, the Zanskar River flows with a roaring sound. But in the winters, the water turns to ice, forming a 'Chadar' or blanket over the river. The route of the Chadar trek follows the course of the river, over the blanket of thick ice. While it is common to spot local Zanskari natives travelling over the Chadar, you might also spot the blue sheep and ibex, or even the snow leopard, if you're lucky enough.

    • Complete the iconic and famous Chadar trek.
