This winter Chopta trek gives you the opportunity to scale a small trekking peak in the Garhwal Himalayas, Chandrashila peak (13,123 feet).On this snow trek to Chopta Chandrashila, you'll pass through undulating meadows of snow, meet local shepherds and trek through gorgeous pine forests. You'll also stop at Deoriatal lake, and attempt to climb Chandrashila peak. With the close proximity of this trek to the roadhead, the trek is ideal for beginners wanting to experience the joys of snow trekking in a safe and relatively comfortable manner.

    The first phase of this snow trek to Chopta Chandrashila is a hiking trip up to Deoriatal, a beautiful high altitude lake surrounded by emerald green forests. Chopta, also known as the mini-Switzerland of India, is next on your itinerary. It lives up to the name with its green meadows and majestic view of the Himalayan peaks around. Next, take a trek to Tungnath temple, said to house the highest Shiva shrine in the world. And finally, Chandrashila peak, standing tall at 13123 feet, is the last milestone of the Chopta Chandrashila trek, and affords you a complete 360-degree view of snow-capped peaks.

  • Day 1 of the Chopta Chandrashila trek: Haridwar to Kund

    You'll meet at Haridwar railway station at 07:00 hrs and enjoy a scenic 6 hour drive to Kund. Your drive takes you along the Ganga and Alaknanda river before turning into the Mandakini valley. En route you will cross the holy towns of Rishikesh, Devprayag and Rudraprayag. At Kund, you'll spend the evening relaxing or you can warm up those muscles with a short hike by the river. Overnight in the lodge.

    For cancellations made 45 days or more before the departure of the snow trek to Chopta Chandrashila: Full refund (after deducting any expenses that have been incurred for hotel bookings, transport, etc.) minus any transaction charges.

    For cancellations made 30-45 days before the departure of the snow trek to Chopta Chandrashila: 75% of trip cost will be refunded (after deducting any expenses that have been incurred for hotel bookings, transport, etc.) minus any transaction charges.

    For cancellations made 15-30 days before the departure of the snow trek to Chopta Chandrashila: 50% of trip cost will be refunded (after deducting any expenses that have been incurred for hotel bookings, transport, etc.) minus any transaction charges.

    For cancellations made 0-15 days before the departure of the snow trek to Chopta Chandrashila: No refund.

    No show: No refund.

    Payment for this snow trek to Chopta Chandrashila will not be adjusted towards any future trips.

    Rules on trip

    The operator has a set of guidelines for the snow trek to Chopta Chandrashila that must be adhered to based on the tenets of ‘Leave No Trace’ & ‘Tread Light’ policies. These guidelines are very simple and emphasise on travelling in small groups, better planning, understanding impact of camping, proper waste disposal, respecting local cultures, sensitivity towards wildlife and so on.

    Participants must adhere to the instructions of the team leader on this snow trek to Chopta Chandrashila.

    Smoking, consumption of alcohol, narcotic drugs etc. is strictly prohibited during the Chopta trek.

    While on the snow trek to Chopta Chandrashila, participants must follow a proper waste disposal system.

    Additional instructions, booking policies, terms and conditions

    The operator takes utmost care to ensure safety of its clients on this trek to Chopta-Chandrashila. However in the case of any unforeseen mishaps, the operator will not be liable for any injuries caused or for loss of life.

    If due to bad weather, sickness, natural calamity or any other personal reasons, the itinerary of this trip is changed, the extra charges for accommodation, transport, etc, will be borne by the guests. The same will be applicable if a guest decides to change the itinerary due to personal reasons, injury, or bad health.

    Participants will be required to fill up an indemnity form before embarking on the snow trek to Chopta Chandrashila. You are requested to inform the operator if you're suffering from any major ailment and submit your health certificate.

    All fixed departure trips will be run according to a fixed schedule and standard services. In case of individual requirements, the operator may not be able to entertain the request or may have to charge additional amounts. Please be aware of this fact.
