  • Trip introduction

    This trek is a short, easy trek that takes you up to a spectacular 13550 feet. It runs along the high Himalayas, offering you great views all the way. The trek allows you to visit Tungnath, which is said to be the highest Shiva temple in the world.

    The challenge of climbing to Chandrashila is an exciting one for any adventurer, and the 360-degree panorama of the mighty Himalayas is ample reward.

    Destination

    Although it takes you fairly high up into the mountains, this trek is considered to be a good trek for beginners looking for the full Himalayan experience. Chopta being a hill station, this part of the trail winds through splendid meadows filled with flowers. In spring, you'll be surrounded by the gorgeous pinks and reds of the rhododendron forest in full bloom.

    Rules on the trip

    Aquaterra Adventures India Pvt. Ltd. reserves the right to cancel any expedition prior to departure, in which case participants will be given a refund in full.

    Aquaterra Adventures Pvt. Ltd. strongly recommends that you buy travel insurance including cancellation insurance upon booking.

    The trip leader's decision is final.

    Participants have to respect local culture and should not litter or deface natural structures/monuments.

    Cancellation policy

    Please note that the following charges will apply on cancellation:

    If cancellation takes place more than 45 days prior to departure, your full deposit will be returned except a processing charge of Rs. 5000

    If cancellation takes place between 45 and 30 days prior to departure, 50% of the tour price will be forfeited

    If cancellation takes place less than 30 days prior to departure, 100% of the tour price will be forfeited.

    Additional instructions, booking policies, terms and conditions

    The trek takes place in remote areas where there is little or no access to normal medical services or hospital facilities for serious problems. Where necessary, evacuation can be prolonged, difficult and expensive. Medical and evacuation expenses will be the responsibility of the participant.

    In the event of a change, postponement or delay, participants have no right to refund of the tour price (in whole or in part) or other compensation for any injury, loss or damage.

    Participants will have to sign an Indemnity form before starting this trip.

    In case of late booking, participants will have to bear an additional cost of Rs. 1400 as railway tatkal charges.

  • Day 1: Overnight train to Haridwar

    Take the overnight NDLS DDN AC Express (11:55pm) from Delhi to reach Haridwar early in the morning (4:00am).

    Day 02: Haridwar to Sari

    The group arrives in Haridwar early in the morning, and boards the waiting vehicles to Sari (6 hours drive). En route, there is a stop to wash up and grab some breakfast. The road winds along beside the Alaknanda river. From Sari, there is a gradual uphill trek of two hours, to reach the beautiful Devariyatal. Overnight at lakeside campsite.

    Day 03: Trek Devariyatal - Chopta

    Today's trail goes through dense oak forests, and takes trekkers along the ridge to Tali. The trail slopes upwards to reach the alpine meadows of Chopta. Chopta has some of the most admired landscapes in the Himalayas, and you'll get to camp here tonight.

    Day 04: Trek Chopta - Tungnath - Chopta

    Today's trekking requires an early start. The group begins the climb to Tungnath temple. You'll reach in time to enjoy the mystical morning atmosphere at the temple. After this, the ascent goes onwards to Chandrashila peak. The views from here, at a height of over 13500 feet, are truly spectacular. Return to Chopta for the night.

    Day 05: Return to Haridwar and Delhi

    Drive to Haridwar and take the evening Shatabdi Express to reach Delhi by 10:45 pm. Trip ends here.

    • Warm sleeping bag till 0 degrees C (you could hire one for Rs 100/- per day)
    • Water bottle – at least 1 litre
    • Flash light and spare batteries – important
    • Sun shade/hat with brim/woolen hat/gloves
    • Sunglasses
    • Sunscreen SPF 50 and more
    • Vaseline
    • Insect repellent (if you are prone to bites)
    • Personal toiletries – towels/soap etc.
    • Roll of toilet paper
    • Rucksack/duffel bag to carry your baggage
    • Karri mat/thermarest (optional)
    • Small daypack to carry camera, packed lunch, water bottle and wind/rain jacket on a walk
    • Note: Please keep your personal items to a minimum (besides the essentials) so that your bag (no hard shells please) is light and easy to carry.
