If you really want to see Delhi, this adventure gives you an all-round experience. Your cycling adventure takes you through the glorious past and the utterly modern facets of Delhi, with a taste of the fun that makes the capital city of India so special. On cycles, you’ll explore the older parts, from Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques built by the Mughal emperor Shahjahan, to the teeming markets of Chandni Chowk. Then you switch to the present, and hop off your bikes to catch the uber efficient Delhi Metro train, and take a rickshaw ride. You’ll end at the Tibetan Colony (also known as Little Lhasa), with a delicious breakfast here.
The seventeenth-century city of Shahjahanabad (also known as the Walled City), built for the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, is known as Old Delhi. Construction began in 1638, and within eleven years it was complete with fourteen main gates.
This area is now mostly in ruins, and is home to bustling marketplaces and densely populated residential areas. But with a flip of a switch, you’ll be witnessing the more modern aspects of the city.
