  • Trip introduction

This epic Spiti cycling adventure is not for the faint-hearted! You'll be cycling across 450 kms of rugged terrain over 15 days, through the magical landscape of the Spiti Valley. The benefit of this route is that most of it is downhill, but you can expect some steep climbs and some long days of cycling. You'll also enjoy this itinerary, as it involves cycling and hiking.

This cycling trip in Spiti takes you deep into the culture of the people here. You'll be spending nights in homestays, eating meals with locals, staying in monasteries, and visiting small villages where time seems to have stood still.

This expedition is accompanied by 1 tow truck and 1 Tempo Traveller vehicle. The truck will carry cycles and baggage, and the Tempo is for cyclists who want to rest or are unable to cycle that day. There are rest stops every 25-30 minutes, and you'll be able to get a snack or drink, or access your luggage if you need to.

IMPORTANT: This is a difficult cycling tour with off-road and uphill cycling. Participants should be seasoned cyclists with good to great levels of fitness.

    Destination

Although it lies in Himachal Pradesh, the Spiti Valley is very unlike the rest of this state. While Himachal is green and filled with fruit and flower orchards, Spiti is a cold desert that lies between India and Tibet. The harsh weather and arid terrain are the perfect backdrop for the dramatic mix of Indian and Tibetan cultures.

You'll start from Saharan, and will cycle through Sangla, Kalpa, Nako, Tabo, Mud, Kaza, Key, Kibber, and Chandratal. During this Spiti cycling expedition, you'll cycle along sparkling rivers, climb to high mountain passes, and hike through dramatic landscapes.
