  • Trip introduction

    The trek to Everest Base Camp is one of the best treks that Nepal can offer to any seasoned trekker. The highlight of the popular trek remains incredible views of Himalayan peaks like Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse and many more. Hiking past alpine forests, full of ancient oak and pine trees, you'll make your way along the Dudhkoshi River. For a week spent inside the Sagarmatha National Park, you'll trek past icy glaciers and herds of massive yaks, you'll spend nights in rustic tea-houses full of charm, eventually reaching the base of Mt. Everest.

    Another highlight of the trek, you'll scale the Kala Patthar mountain, positioned opposite Mt. Everest, to get a glorious sun rise view of the Himalayan range.

    Destination

    The tallest mountain peak in the world, Mt. Everest, has captured the fancy of trekkers for centuries. This trek takes you to the location where mountaineers attempting the summit set up their base camp. The route to the Everest Base Camp takes you inside the Sagarmatha National Park, overgrown with sprawling forests of oak, pine, rhododendron and bamboo with alpine birds chirping throughout.

    The Everest Base Camp trek is a tea-house trek. Instead of camping in tents, you'll spend the night in family-run, local tea-houses that offer basic amenities for stay and food.

    Rules on the trip

    Travellers are requested to treat the local culture with respect and avoid littering, defacing property and monuments and causing general disturbance.

    Travellers are required to follow instructions of the trek leader during the Everest Base Camp trek.

    Consumption of alcohol and drugs is strictly prohibited during the trek. Consumption of tobacco products like cigarettes is not recommended.

    Cancellation policy

    All cancellations made after booking the Everest Base Camp trek: no refund.

    In case of no show: no refund.

    Instead of cancelling the initial booking, travellers may use the booking amount to book any alternate trek with the tour operator. This offer is valid for a period of one year after the initial booking, and may be subject to a transfer fee.

    Instead of cancelling the initial booking, travellers may transfer their spot to another eligible traveller as well.

    It is mandatory for travellers to obtain complete adventure travel insurance, covering personal accident, medical expenses and emergency evacuation charges.

    Travellers from outside Nepal are requested to carry enough cash in the local currency to cover any personal or incidental expenses.

    The tour operator reserves the right to alter or cancel the itinerary of the Everest Base Camp trek due to any unforeseen circumstances to ensure maximum safety of travellers and staff. Costs arising due to such a change in itinerary are borne by the traveller.

    The tour operator takes utmost care to ensure maximum safety for travellers and will not be responsible for any accident, mishap or loss of life during the trek to Everest Base Camp.

  • Day 1 of the Everest Base camp trek: Arrive in Kathmandu

    Arrive at the Kathmandu International Airport, where you'll be picked up by a representative of the tour operator and escorted to a hotel. Spend the rest of the day at leisure. Venture in the city to explore the local marketplace or visit restaurants to taste the traditional cuisine. Overnight in a hotel at Kathmandu.

    Day 2 of the Everest Base camp trek: Kathmandu to Phakding

    Wake up, bright and early, and travel to the airport. You'll board a domestic flight to Lukla, with beautiful birds eye views of the mountains. Once you reach Lukla, you'll begin the trek to Phakding. Walking through forests of oak and pine, you'll trek past pleasant views of the terrain. The chirping of alpine birds will accompany you throughout the trek, even as you reach Phakding by late afternoon. Overnight in a tea-house at Phakding.

    Day 3 of the Everest Base camp trek: Phakding to Namche Bazaar

    Today's journey will take you to the gateway town of Namche Bazaar. Entering the Sagarmatha National Park, you'll breath in the crispy mountain air and take the path parallel to the Dudhkoshi River. As you cross suspension bridges over the river, you'll catch your first glimpse of the big mountain, the Everest. You'll encounter an especially tedious, uphill climb in the final stretch of the trail, until you reach Namche Bazaar. Overnight in a tea-house at Namche Bazaar.

    Day 4 of the Everest Base camp trek: Day at Namche Bazaar

    The day is reserved for you to rest and acclimatize to Namche's high altitude. Explore the sights and sounds of the town by taking a short hike to visit the Everest View Hotel, the highest hotel in the world. Panoramic views of the peaks like Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse and others will dominate the distant horizon. In the evening, relax at one of the cosy cafes or pubs of Namche with your fellow trekkers. Overnight in a tea-house at Namche Bazaar.

    Day 5 of the Everest Base camp trek: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche

    Begin your day with a fairly gentle trek towards Tengboche. Forests painted in all shades of green and brown, with pines and magnolia, pepper your trail to Tengboche. Ever spectacular views of higher mountain peaks like Nuptse and Thamserku will fade in and out of view along the trail. En route, you'll visit the 300-year old monastery of Tengboche, where Everest climber Tenzing Norway once lived as a monk. Overnight in a tea-house at Tengboche.

    Day 6 of the Everest Base camp trek: Tengboche to Dingboche

    Today's trek will take you to the village of Dingboche. The initial stretch of the trail takes you downhill via Debouche and Pangboche. As the route resumes a steady march uphill, the dense greenery begins thinning into sparse vegetation. Giant boulders, patches of snow and barren slopes begin dominating the view. Overnight in a tea-house at Dingboche.

    Day 7 of the Everest Base camp trek: Day at Dingboche

    The day is reserved for you to rest and acclimatize to Dingboche's high altitude. Explore the sights and sounds of the region by taking a short hike to the nearby Pangboche valley. Along the route, you can spot several yaks plying on the trail and stop to chat with the Sherpa natives that herd the yaks. Return back to Dingboche by late afternoon. Overnight in a tea-house at Dingboche.

    Day 8 of the Everest Base camp trek: Dingboche to Lobuche

    The trek from Dingboche to Lobuche is a straight, easy trail through open lands. Alongside small river streams and increasingly large patches of ice, you'll grab beautiful views of higher peaks and reach Lobuche. En route, stop to pay respect at the memorials erected in tribute of the mountaineers who have perished in their quest to summit Mt. Everest. Overnight in tea-house at Lobuche.

    Day 9 of the Everest Base camp trek: Lobuche to Gorakshep via EBC

    One of the longest stretches of the trek, today's itinerary will take you to the Everest Base Camp. Trekking over the rocky trail, you'll make your way parallel to the Khumbu glacier. Negotiating your way around rocks and boulders, you'll reach the site of the Everest Base Camp. After half an hour spent to admire the views and breath in the moment, you'll turn around and trek to the nearby lodges of Gorakshep. Overnight in a tea-house at Gorakshep.

    Day 10 of the Everest Base camp trek: Gorakshep to Pheriche via Kala Patthar

    Begin trekking in the moonlight, as early as 04:00 hrs, and take the strenuous, uphill route up the Kala Patthar mountain. You'll arrive at a view point on the mountain, a short distance away from the summit, just in time for a glorious sun rise. You'll get panoramic views of entire Himalayan range. Descend back to Gorakshep and continue onward to the village of Pheriche. Overnight in a tea-house at Pheriche.

    Day 11 of the Everest Base camp trek: Pheriche to Namche Bazaar

    Make your way down to Namche Bazaar. A long but easy trek, you'll leave Mt. Everest behind and begin the descent. You'll retrace your steps over the familiar route and reach Namche by late afternoon. Overnight in a tea-house at Namche Bazaar.

    Day 12 of the Everest Base camp trek: Namche Bazaar to Lukla

    Continue descending and retrace your steps back from Namche to Lukla. Passing the villages of Phakding and Monjo, you'll exit the Sagarmatha National Park and conclude the trek at Lukla. Overnight in a tea-house at Lukla.

    Day 13 of the Everest Base camp trek: Lukla to Kathmandu

    Early in the morning, you'll board a domestic flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. You'll spend the rest of the day at leisure. Shop for souvenirs and gifts at the local marketplace or visit some of the heritage monuments of Kathmandu. Overnight in a hotel at Kathmandu.

    Day 14 of the Everest Base camp trek: Depart from Kathmandu

    Depending on your flight timings, you'll take an airport transfer back to the airport and proceed to your next destination. Your trip ends here.

    Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla and trek to Phakding. Adverse weather conditions may cause delays in the flight timings from Kathmandu to Lukla. You'll be accommodated in a tea-house at Phakding. Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

    Day 3 of the Everest Base camp trek: Phakding to Namche Bazaar

    Overnight in a tea-house at Namche Bazaar.

    Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar. You'll be accommodated in a tea-house at Namche Bazaar. Depending on availability at the tea-houses and your group size, accommodation may be in twin-sharing or triple/quad-sharing basis. If unavailable, accommodation may be changed to multi-sharing dormitory rooms. Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

    Day 4 of the Everest Base camp trek: Day at Namche Bazaar

    Overnight in a tea-house at Namche Bazaar.

    Spend the day at Namche Bazaar. You'll be accommodated in the same tea-house as yesterday. A tea-house room will include basic amenities like a bed and bed sheet. Several trekkers prefer to bring their own sleeping bag to use during overnight stay in tea-houses. Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

    Day 5 of the Everest Base camp trek: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche

    Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche. You'll be accommodated in a tea-house at Tengboche. Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. Meals are usually served from an a-la carte menu at the tea-house. Egg preparations will be available on most days.

    Day 6 of the Everest Base camp trek: Tengboche to Dingboche

    Overnight in a tea-house at Dingboche.

    Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche. You'll be accommodated in a tea-house at Dingboche. Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. While non-vegetarian preparations will be available on some days, travellers are advised to only consume vegetarian options due to concerns of health and safety.

    Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche. Throughout the trek, you'll be accompanied by an experienced trek leader and a support staff of cooks, porters and helpers. You'll be accommodated in a tea-house at Loboche. Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

    Day 9 of the Everest Base camp trek: Lobuche to Gorakshep via EBC

    Overnight in a tea-house at Gorakshep.

    Trek from Lobuche to Gorakshep. You'll be accommodated in a tea-house at Gorakshep. In most tea-house accommodations, washroom facilities will be common to all guests at the tea-house. Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

    Day 10 of the Everest Base camp trek: Gorakshep to Pheriche via Kala Patthar

    Overnight in a tea-house at Pheriche.

    Trek from Gorakshep to Pheriche. You'll be accommodated in a tea-house at Pheriche. A tea-house is a local, family-run lodge offering basic services of stay and food. They cater entirely to trekkers and mountaineers plying the route. Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

    Day 11 of the Everest Base camp trek: Pheriche to Namche Bazaar

    Overnight in a tea-house at Namche Bazaar.

    Trek from Pheriche to Namche Bazaar. Throughout the trek, you'll be accompanied by porters who will carry your personal luggage. One porter will be assigned to two travellers, carrying a maximum weight of 25 kgs. You'll be accommodated in a tea-house at Namche Bazaar. Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

    Day 12 of the Everest Base camp trek: Namche Bazaar to Lukla

    Overnight in a tea-house at Lukla.

    Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla. Celebrate the successful end of your trek to Everest Base Camp. You'll be accommodated in a tea-house at Lukla. Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

    Day 13 of the Everest Base camp trek: Lukla to Kathmandu

    Overnight in a hotel at Kathmandu.

    Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu. You'll be accommodated in a hotel at Kathmandu on twin-sharing basis. Today's meal package includes breakfast and a farewell dinner at a popular restaurant in Kathmandu. You may visit any of the restaurants in Kathmandu to have extra meals at your own expense.
