  • Trip introduction

The Hampta Pass trek is one of the most dramatic crossovers treks in the Himalayas. The entire trail of this trek involves stark changes in the landscape. The lush maple forest of Jobra gives way to the vast grassland of Chika, which then leads to gorgeous meadows of Jwara. The sandy terrain of Balu ka Ghera transforms into snow-carpeted Hampta Pass, flanked by the towering mountains of Kullu Valley. Traversing the Hampta Pass brings you to the Lahaul-Spiti Valley. You will go on a short drive in the valley and hike towards the magnificent crescent-shaped Chandratal Lake. This entire trek is moderately difficult but suitable for fit beginners.

    Destination

The Hampta Pass stretches at an elevation of 14,100 feet in the Pir Panjal range of Himachal Pradesh. It serves as a crossover from the verdant Kullu Valley to barren Spiti, and is regularly used by shepherds and locals from the region around. On this trek, you'll be camping alongside a stream in the middle of green hills, and scramble over boulders in the dry, brown Spiti moonscape. You will also experience the thick, mixed forests of Jobra, the undulating meadows of Chika, and the heavenly sight of Chandratal Lake.
