    Destination

Kullu and Manali have some of India’s most scenic landscapes, with lush green valleys, alpine forests, fruit-laden trees, and all the mountain views you could wish for. As you cross over into Lahaul however, you’ll find that the semi-arid landscape with its strikingly bare environs has a drama of their own.

Crossing the Hampta pass en route poses a good challenge with scree slopes and boulder-ridden trails. You’ll end on a high note at your gorgeous campsite alongside Chandratal, a lake with cool mountain water that will tempt you to dip your toes in. One of the highlights of this trek to Hampta Pass is camping alongside the lake, watching the sun set in a blaze of colours, and witnessing the early morning mist clearing over the water.

This Hampta Pass trek can be attempted by fit first-timers, or seasoned adventurers looking for a fun trek. You will have to cross a high-altitude mountain pass, do a few river crossings, and on some day
