  • Trip introduction

    Considered as one of the best treks in Uttarakhand, the Har Ki Dun trek takes you deep into the valleys of the Garhwal Himalayas through a route that is rife with dense forests and vibrant greens.

    Over a period of 7 days, you’ll traverse a series of gorgeous landscapes. This includes traversing the forests of cedar, oak and pine; crossing over boulders and streams and passing through many small villages.

    Apart from imbibing the rustic charm of this region, you’ll even catch spectacular views of the Dhaualadhar and Swargarohini Ranges, along with astounding views of the Tons and Supin Rivers. But once you reach the hilly base of the Har Ki Dun peak, you’ll get to see the real magic. From such a high altitude, everything from surrounding forests to pasture lands to villages and mountain valleys can be seen through an uninterrupted lens.

    With just a few steep patches, this trek is ideal for beginners. It also a great experience that combines natural beauty with the cultural influence found in this region.

    Destination

    At an elevation of 11800 feet, the Har Ki Dun Valley is a high altitude cradle shaped hanging valley in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand. Known for its rich green route, the layer surrounding this valley consists of dense alpine vegetation with a view of snow-covered mountains in the background. Besides exhibiting breathtaking natural beauty, the route to this valley also encompasses a number of small villages filled with rolling fields of harvest. For this trip, you’ll start with a drive from Sankri to Taluka, from where your trek begins.

    Throughout this trip, you’ll be accommodated in comfortable tents equipped with all the camping amenities. Besides this, your meals will be freshly cooked and will consist of breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner.

    Rules on the trip

    Participants must adhere to the instructions of the trip leader/guide at all times during the Har Ki Dun trek.

    Consumption of alcoholic beverages/drugs is not permitted during the Har Ki Dun trek.

    Littering or any damage to natural habitats is strictly forbidden during the Har Ki Dun trek.

    Cancellation policy

    For cancellations made 7 days prior to the departure date of the Har Ki Dun trek: 100% refund.

    For cancellations made between 6 to 4 days prior to the departure date of the Har Ki Dun trek: No refund, but you can choose to go on another trek at a later date.

    For cancellations made 3 days prior to the departure date of the Har Ki Dun trek: No refund.

    All cancellations should be notified a week before the departure date of the Har Ki Dun trek.

    All refunds will be processed after deducting a transaction fee of INR 200 per person. This fee is charged by The Great Next.

    Additional instructions, booking policies, terms and conditions

    For the Har Ki Dun trek pick-up and drop-off facilities are provided from Dehradun to Sankri at an additional cost of INR 2000 per person. If you avail of this, your pick-up point is from the Dehradun Railway Station at 08:00 hrs sharp. If not, you can reach Sankri directly by evening time on Day 1.

    Any additional expenses that occur due to unforseen circumstances during the Har Ki Dun trek have to be borne by the participant.

    The operator cannot be held responsible for any loss, damage, accident or death that occurs during the Har Ki Dun trek.

  • Day 1 of the Har Ki Dun trek: Arrive at Sankri

    You'll begin Har Ki Dun trek by reaching the serene village of Sankri today from Dehradun. Please note that pick-up and drop-off facility is available at an additional cost.

    As Sankri is 10 hour drive from Dehradun, you'll reach by late evening. Once you reach check into the campsite for dinner and rest.

    Day 2 of the Har Ki Dun trek: Trek from Sankri to Pauni Garaat via Taluka

    Wake up early today in the midst of wilderness. Today's journey takes you to Pauni Garaat via Taluka. Once you reach Taluka, through a series of mesmerising landscapes you'll make your way to Pauni Garaat. This includes trekking over boulders, through forests of conifers, over a cemented bridge and trailing along the Tons River. En route you can even stop to fill your bottles with fresh water.

    Towards the last part of your trek you'll pass through many fields of potato, millet and maize. Finally, you'll reach Pauni Garaat, a green clearing on the banks of the Supin River. Once you set up your camp, spend the rest of the day resting before retiring into your tents for sleep.

    Day 3 of the Har Ki Dun trek: Trek from Pauni Garaat to Kalkattiyadhar

    Today's journey takes you Kalkattiyadhar. First you'll cross 3 'garaat' known as the hydroelectricity run chaffing units used by the villagers to seperate husks of millet and maize followed by a grounding process. You'll then pass through some harvested lands, catch sight of grazing cattle and the traditional slanting roofed huts used for granary storage.

    After crossing a bridge, you'll encounter a slight ascent, however through this hike you'll catch gorgeous views of the Dhauladhar Ranges. Finally, after winding down you'll reach the green patch, which will pose as your camping site for the night. At night you'll feast on a filling dinner before retiring into your tents for sleep.

    Day 4 of the Har Ki Dun trek: Trek from Kalkattiyadhar to Har Ki Dun

    Today's journey will take you to the much awaited Har Ki Dun. After 3.5 hrs of trekking you'll finally reach the destination, which lies at the green foothillls of the Har Ki Dun peak. From here you'll catch views of the Supin River streams, the heart of the valley, green roofed cottages and the Swargarohini Ranges. After setting up your camp, you'll spend the rest of the day resting or clicking photos. At night feast on ahealthy dinner and then have a good night's sleep.

    Day 5 of the Har Ki Dun trek: Trek from Har Ki Dun to Pauni Garaat via Osla

    As today marks the beginning of your return journey, you'll begin with a trek back to Pauni Garaat via Osla. You'll reach by afternoon where in you'll be greeted by many warm locals. You can also stop by the Durtodhana temple if you like. After soaking in the rustic charm of Osla, you'll then make your way back to Pauni Garaat through narrow hilly lanes and along riverbeds. Once you reach, you can set up your campsite for the night.

    Day 6 of the Har Ki Dun trek: Trek from Pauni Ghat to Sankri via Taluka

    Today you'll make your way back to Sankri via Taluka. As this trek requires to retrace your steps, you'll pass through thick forests and boulders. Once you reach Taluka, a car will await you to drive you back to Sankri. You'll reach by evening just in time for tea. After a long but beautiful journey, rest at your campsite. Have an early dinner and then retire into your tents for the night.

    Day 7 of the Har Ki Dun trek: Departure from Sankri and trip end

    Wake up early today. As it is the last day of your adventure, bid your farewells and check out of the camspite in Sankri. If you've availed of the drop-off facility, you'll embark on a 10 drive from Sankri to Dehradun, where your journey will come to an end. Once you reach Dehradun, your trip comes to an end.

    You'll arrive at the campsite in Sankri by evening today. Throughout the trek you'll be staying in tents equipped with sleeping bags, mattresses and blankets. You'll be given a dinner consisting of aloo mutter cooked in Pahari style with tawa rotis, steamed basmati rice, fresh vegetables with salad and a dessert.

    Day 2 of the Har Ki Dun trek: Trek from Sankri to Pauni Garaat via Taluka

    Overnight in tents.

    You'll begin your day with a healthy breakfast which typically consists of oat meal served with fresh milk and fruits, with options of eggs and mashed potatoes with curd or spiced vegetables. After trekking for the whole day spend the night in Pauni Garaat in a twin or triple sharing campsite. Today's package also includes lunch, evening snacks and dinner.     After trekking for the whole day you'll return to the campsite in Sankri. Today's package includes meals of breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner.

    Day 7 of the Har Ki Dun trek: Departure from Sankri and trip end

    Your trip ends before nightfall.

    As it is the last day of your trip, you'll check out of your campsite early. No meals are provided today, but you'll have many options at local food joints. If you've availed of the pick-up and drop-off facility from Dehradun, a car will pick you up and transport you to Dehreadun via 10 hour journey. Once you reach, your trip comes to an end.
