Trek to Harishchandragad via Nalichi Vaat

The trek to Harishchandragad is one of the more challenging treks in Maharashtra. But with this trip, instead of trekking over the more popular route via Pachnai village, you'll take a little-known route via the Nalichi Vaat. You'll be treading narrow trails, slippery edges, steep rockfaces and giant boulders, on your way to the top of Harishchandragad. Throughout the trek, picture perfect views of the valley will accompany you. You'll spend the night at Konkankada, sleeping in tents pitched in the wilderness of the mighty mountains. The next day, before making your way down, you'll grab visit the ancient and historic temples and caves of Harishchandragad.

This trek to Harishchandragad takes you over a trail rated moderately difficult, making it perfect for fit and healthy beginners as well as experienced trekkers.


Located a 4-hr drive and a few hours of trekking from Kalyan, the pinnacle of Harishchandragad is located inside the Kalsubai Harishchandragad Wildlife Sanctuary. Although not much remains of the actual fort, trekkers can visit the several temples and caves of Harishchandragad, the history reminiscent of the centuries-old tales of Marathas and Mugals. Harishchandragad is also located close to Konkankada, a flat plateau that now serves as a camping ground as well as the Taramati Shikhar, a tall peak offering views of the sunrise.

Arrive at the Kalyan railway station by 23:15 hrs. Here, you'll board a non-AC vehicle and settle in for a 3-hr drive from Kalyan to the base village of the trek. You'll arrive at the base by 02:00 hrs.

Day 1 Milestone



00:09 AM

Reach the base village and take some time to rest. After the morning sun rises in the sky, you'll begin the trek to Harishchandragad via the Nalichi Vaat. You'll be ascending over an uphill route for most of the day, trekking past beautiful views of the Sahyadri mountains.

Arrive at Konkankada and spend some time exploring the area and clicking photographs. Soon, you'll set up camp at Konkankada and spend the rest of the evening having fun with your fellow trekkers. Overnight in tents at Konkankada.

Day 2 Milestone



05:30 AM

Wake up early in the morning, before the break of dawn, and resume the trek to Harishchangragad. A short uphill trek later, you'll find yourself at your destination. You'll spend some time at Harishchandragad, exploring the several temples, caves and ruins of the fort.

Resume trekking and make your way downhill. You'll descend from a different route, showcasing an entirely different side of the fort. You should reach the base by noon. Here, vehicles will be waiting to drive you to Kasara. Subject to traffic conditions, you'll arrive at the Kasara railway station by 18:00 hrs. Your trip ends here.

Cancellation policy

For cancellations made 8 days or more before departure of the Harishchandragad trek: 75% refund.

For cancellations made 4-7 days before departure of the Harishchandragad trek: 50% refund.

For cancellations made less than 4 days before departure of the Harishchandragad trek: no refund.

In case of no show: no refund.

Travellers are required to follow instructions of the trek leader during the trek to Harishchandragad.

Consumption of alcohol, drugs and tobacco products like cigarettes is strictly prohibited during the trip.

Travellers are required to treat the local culture with respect and avoid littering, defacing property and monuments and causing general disturbance.
