The trek to Kalavantin Durg is one of the most dangerous and adrenaline-pumping adventures across India which is strictly not recommended for beginners, or those with vertigo or fear of heights. This trek first begins with an easy uphill climb to Prabalmachi, the base village of Kalavatin, followed by summiting the Kalavantin fortress. To reach the fortress, you will be ascending through steep and narrow rock-cut steps with no iron rails or any support on one side. The trail gets steeper and vertigo-inducing as you make your way up while enjoying the incredible views of the green jungle below. During rains, the trail gets slippery and you should be extremely careful while trekking, especially during the descent.
Kalavantin Durg is perched at the height of 2,300 feet in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra near Mumbai. Kalavantin is renowned as India's most dangerous fortress climb and famed as the 'Climb to Heaven', owing to a treacherous path to the top while getting the bird's eye view of soothing nature. The Kalavantin pinnacle was used as a watchtower by Shivaji to keep an on Panvel and Kalyan Forts. From the top, you can see several rivers, Prabalgad, Irshalgad, Chanderi, and Manikgad forts.
