  • Trip introduction

    This 3-day trek to Kareri Lake will take you through the mountain peaks of Dhauladhar Mountain Ranges. You will trek through forests of oak, pine and rhododendron, hike along the Nyund River and camp in some of the most scenic locations in Himachal Pradesh. Open your eyes to the exhilarating beauty that nature holds and trek from one gorgeous landscape to another. At altitudes as high as 9,600 ft, you will spend the evening around a crackling bonfire with the rest of the travellers. You will end your days in tents pitched under the starry Himalayan night sky and drift into a restful night’s sleep.

    You will trek over relatively easy terrain for 5 to 7 hours every day, making it a perfect for fit beginners as well as experienced trekkers.

    Destination

    Kareri Lake is a shallow freshwater lake fed by the melting glaciers of the Himalayas. Located at an altitude of 9,600 ft in the Dhauladhar Mountain Ranges, Kareri Lake offers a picturesque landscape of towering mountain peaks and their reflections in the still waters of the lake. For many trekkers, Kareri Lake also serves as a base camp for the Minkiani and Bleni Pass treks. En route to the lake, you can stop at vantage points offering unfiltered views of hills layered with dense forests and snowy peaks.

    Rules on the trip

    Travellers are required to adhere to the instructions of the trip leader/tour guide during the Kareri Lake Trek.

    Consumption of alcohol and narcotics is strictly prohibited during the trek.

    Cancellation policy

    Cancellations made on or more than 7 days prior to departure date of the Kareri Lake trek: 70% refund.

    Cancellations made between 3 to 6 days prior to departure date of the Kareri Lake trek: 50% refund.

    Cancellations made between on or less than 2 days prior to departure date of the Kareri Lake trek: No refund.

    No show: No refund.

    All refunds will be processed after deducting any transaction charges.

    Additional instructions, booking policies, terms and conditions

    The tour operator takes utmost care to ensure safety of the travellers and shall not be held responsible for any mishap, accident or loss of life during the Kareri Lake Trek.

    Travellers will be required to bear any additional costs arising due to unforeseen circumstances such as bad weather, road blocks etc.

    If the trek is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, you can choose between an alternate trek and a voucher redeemable for a year.

    Raincoat/poncho or trekking poles can be rented for INR 110 per day

  • Day 1 of the Kareri Lake trek: Dharamshala to Rioti

    Arrive at the Dharamshala bus stand by 06:30 hrs where you will travel in pre-arranged shared cabs to the Kareri village. After a 27-km, 2-hr drive, you will reach Kareri village. After breakfast and a briefing session, begin trekking towards the village of Rioti. The initial part of trek will be on tarmac roads that pass yellow and green farms with small village huts. After crossing a bridge over Nyund River, you will enter a forest and take a nature trail along the Nyund River. En route your journey, stop for packed lunch. Once you reach Rioti by evening, spend some time with your fellow travellers around a bonfire, subject to good weather conditions. Overnight at Rioti in tents.

    Day 2 of the Kareri Lake trek: Rioti to Kareri Lake

    Wake up early morning and catch a glorious sunrise in the heart of nature. Indulge yourself with a session of meditation and yoga at the Kareri Lake campsite. After breakfast served with hot tea, continue on the same route as yesterday and head towards Kareri Lake. You will reach the lake by late afternoon. Spend some time at the lake exploring its stunning surroundings and visit the Shiva Temple near the lake. The Kareri Lake also serves as the base camp for Minkiani and Bleni Pass treks. Spend some time with your fellow travellers around a bonfire, subject to good weather conditions. Overnight at Kareri Lake in tents.

    Day 3 of the Kareri Lake trek: Kareri Lake to Dharmashala

    Wake up to some hot tea and breakfast by the Kareri Lake. Today, you will retrace your steps back to Kareri Village via Rioti. A relatively easy trail, you will trek downhill for a majority of the trail. En route, stop to eat a packed lunch. You will reach Kareri Village by evening and board vehicles to reach Dharmashal by 20:00 hrs. Your trip ends here.
