Kedarkantha Trek

This 5-day trek to Kedarkantha is a wonderful adventure that takes you to an altitude of 12,500 feet. This trek is moderately difficult for those looking to explore the Himalayan mountain ranges. Kedarkantha is quite a popular destination amongst avid trekkers. On this trek, you'll trek through forests, grasslands and snowfields, and sleep in alpine tents at scenic locations covered with snow. A highlight of this trek, apart from the Kedarkantha summit is Juda Ka Taal, which is an enchanting lake flanked by dense woods on one side and meadows on the other.

Destination

Kedarkantha Peak is located in the Himalayas in Uttarakhand at an altitude of 12,500 feet. It is one of the most popular trekking destinations in Uttarakhand. On this trek, you will walk through a diverse landscape; you will begin your trek in pine forests and walk through patches of snow, you'll cross the tree line and come across snow-covered meadows at around 10,000 feet.

You will spend nights in tents at scenic locations, even at the banks of the beautiful Juda ka Taal. The temperature during the day ranges from 8 to 10 degree Celsius, and during the night it drop to a range of -15 to -10 degree Celcius.

You will arrive at Sankri by 15:00 hrs. It is a beautiful village in the Uttarkashi district. You will spend your day exploring the village and attending an orientation program to learn about the basics of the trek. Overnight in tents at Sankri.

Today, you will start early and have breakfast. After which you will begin your 5 kms trek to Juda Ka Taal. You might even spot a woodpecker on the way as they are common in this region. You will trek through forests and green meadows, and reach the lake by afternoon. Overnight in tents at the Juda Ka Taal campsite.

You will begin your day early with breakfast at Sankri, and then you will depart for Juda Ka Taal. You'll have packed breakfast on the way. Dinner will be served to you in the late evening at the campsite. Sleeping bags and mattresses will be provided to you for the night.

Your day will begin with a quick breakfast, after which you will begin your trek to the Kedarkantha base camp. It is a short 4 kms trek and it will take you 3-4 hours to reach the base camp. You will sleep early as you have an early trek the next day. Overnight in tents at the base camp.

Today you will have a quick breakfast the morning and then head out for Kedarkantha base camp. You will have packed lunch on the way itself. Dinner will be served to you in the late evening. You will go to sleep early as you'll be waking up at 02:30 hrs and push for the summit. Sleeping bags and mattresses will be provided to you for the night.

Day 3 Milestone

Juda Ka Taal

Kedarkantha base camp

07:00 AM

You will wake at 02:30 hrs and have a quick bite and prepare for your trek. Since it will be a long trek, you will set out at around 04:00 hrs. You will be treated with a glorious sunrise on your trek too. You can leave your backpack at the base camp and only carry the essentials, since you will trek to Hargaon via the base camp. You will get to see the spectacular ranges of Yamunotri and Gangotri. You will spend some time at the summit and then trek to Hargaon campsite via the base camp. Overnight in tents at Hargaon campsite.

You will begin your day at 02:30 hrs in the morning and have a quick breakfast, after which you will head out for the summit at 04:00 hrs. Packed lunch will be served on the trek, and dinner will be served to you upon reaching Hargaon campsite. Sleeping bags and mattresses will be provided to you for the night.

Kedarkantha base camp

Today is the last day of the trek, and you will begin your trek to Sankri which is a 6 kms trek. It is an easy descend and won't take long. Upon reaching the campsite, you will then depart for your home city.

Your trip ends before nightfall.

You will have breakfast and then leave for Sankri. You will reach there by afternoon since it is a short and easy trek. Your trip ends today.

Cancellation policy

For cancellations made more than 20 days before departure date of the Kedarkantha trek: 80% refund.

For cancellations made 20 days or less before departure date of the Kedarkantha trek: no refund.

In case of no show: no refund.

All refunds will be processed after deducting a transaction fee of INR 200 per person. This fee is charged by The Great Next.

Rules on trip

Travellers are required to follow instructions of the trek leader during the Kedarkantha trek.

Travellers are requested to treat the local culture with respect and avoid littering, defacing property and monuments and causing general disturbance.

Consumption of alcohol, drugs and tobacco products like cigarettes is strictly prohibited during the Kedarkantha trek.

The tour operator takes utmost care to ensure maximum safety of travellers and will not be held responsible for any accident, mishap or loss of life or property during the trek to Kedarkantha.

The tour operator reserves the right to alter or cancel the itinerary of the trek to Kedarkantha due to any unforeseen circumstances such as bad weather or natural calamities. Travellers will bear any costs arising due to such a change in the itinerary.
