Dehradun is the nearest railway station/airport to Sankri. From Dehradun, you can take a shared/private cab for a 10-ride-hour to get to Sankri.
For beginners who want to experience the thrill of conquering a snow-laden trek, there is no better option than the Kedarkantha trek. Kedarkantha is one of the few treks that are open throughout the year, but it is ideal between December and March when the trail is covered entirely with snow that is thick, pure white, and so much fun! From camping beside a frozen lake to witnessing the Himalayas in all their winter glory, this trek is an easy way to get the full snow trek experience.
The Kedarkantha summit offers a 360-degree view of some of the highest Himalayan peaks like Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini, and Black Pearl. Passing through the Govind wild life sanctuary and national park, you can expect to see plenty of the rich flora and fauna of Uttarakhand district.

Do ensure that you reach Sankri by afternoon or late afternoon. You have a choice of public transport or a shared cab to Sankri. At Sankri, you'll have some time to explore the local market or take a walk to get those muscles warmed up. Overnight in guesthouse.

Tonight you'll sleep in a guesthouse in Sankri. Make sure you charge your phones, camera, batteries, and anything else because you'll be camping in tents for the next few days.
