Snow Trek to Kedarkantha

For beginners who want to experience the thrill of conquering a snow-laden trek, there is no better option than the Kedarkantha trek. Kedarkantha is one of the few treks that are open throughout the year, but it is ideal between December and March when the trail is covered entirely with snow that is thick, pure white, and so much fun! From camping beside a frozen lake to witnessing the Himalayas in all their winter glory, this trek is an easy way to get the full snow trek experience.

Destination

The Kedarkantha summit offers a 360-degree view of some of the highest Himalayan peaks like Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini, and Black Pearl. Passing through the Govind wild life sanctuary and national park, you can expect to see plenty of the rich flora and fauna of Uttarakhand district.

A short walk takes you to Taluka, from where you begin your trek. Here, a narrow trail leads up through the pine forests. During winters, the trail is covered with snow and therefore can be challenging. The climb up to Juda ka talab is steep and takes about 3-4 hours. But the reward is worth it! This small pond is serene and green in the summers, but during the winter, it freezes over. With pine trees loaded with snow, this location is absolutely spectacular in the winter. You’ll be camping in tents here for the night.
