Kodachadri trek is a mesmerizing trek in the Western Ghats of Karnataka that takes you to the peak of the 13th highest peak of the state to an altitude of 4,406 feet. It is a gorgeous trail that leads to the summit, cutting through dense shola forests, farmlands, scented meadows and across various water streams. En route, the trail also passes the gorgeous waterfalls of Hidlumane and Kodachadri.

And once you're at the top, you enjoy the magnificent views of the rolling hills, green meadows with patches of shola forests here and there, along with the distant view of the sparkling Arabian Sea. All of this comes together to make Kodachadri trek one of the top treks in Bangalore.

About Kodachadri

Kodachadri is Karnataka's 13th highest peak at 4,406 feet in the Mookambika National Park, a biodiversity hotspot, in the Western Ghats. It is a barren peak surrounded by dense shola forests and forms the backdrop of the well-known Mookambika Temple. The peak is declared as a natural heritage site and is a popular destination for nature lovers, trekkers and bird-watchers alike.

Kodachadri derives its name from a combination of one native word and a Sanskrit work. The native word being 'Koda,' meaning kutuja or jasmine flower, and the Sanskrit word begin 'ardi' which stands for mountain. Hence, literally, the name 'Kodachadri' stands for 'the Mountain of Jasmine.'

Detailed itinerary:

Day 1: Depart from Bangalore

Report to the pick-up point at 21:00 hours and board the vehicle that will take you to Sampekatte, the base camp of the Kodachadri trek. It is an overnight bus journey and you’ll reach there early in the morning.

Day 2: Trek to Kodachadri

Today, you’ll wake up and take a short bus to the Kodachadri trekking starting point and begin your trek. En route, you’ll stop by the gorgeous Hidlumane Falls and the Kodachadri temple. After spending some time at the summit, you’ll return to the temple and board a 4x4 jeep back to the homestay. Overnight in a homestay at Sampekatte.

Day 3: Visit Nagara Fort and depart for Bangalore

Waking up in the early hours of dawn, you’ll enjoy breakfast in local cuisine and begin your drive back to Bangalore. You’ll reach the city by 22:00 hours. The Kodachadri trekking trip ends here.

Inclusions:

The Kodachadri trek cost includes transport from Bangalore to Sampekatte and back via non-AC mini-bus, along with a 4x4 jeep ride from Kodachadri temple back to the homestay.

The cost also includes accommodation in a homestay at Sampekatte for 1 night on twin/triple sharing basis, and meals from breakfast on Day 2 to breakfast on Day 3, and if the weather permits, then a campfire too.

Additionally, the cost also includes the services of an experienced trek leader, first aid kit, and all applicable taxes.

Exclusions:

The Kodachadri trekking package does not any kind of travel arrangement from your home-city to the pick-up point. The cost neither includes any costs arising out of unforeseen circumstances like bad weather, roadblocks, etc. nor does it include any personal expenses such as tips, additional meals, beverages, etc. The cost also does not include anything that is not mentioned in the inclusions.

Best time to go/Weather - Kodachadri trek

The best time to go for the Kodachadri trek is during the months of monsoon and winter. During the months of monsoon, the landscape of the Sahyadris turn into a lush paradise and the views are breathtaking with green hills, dark skies and flourishing forests.

The winter season is another great time to go Kodachadri trekking - the skies are clear, the land is still green and the atmosphere is pleasant with cool breeze.

Most operators provide transport from Bangalore to the base camp of the Kodachadri trek. The pick-up points in Bangalore are always major landmarks that can be reached by local transport easily. For the Kodachadri trek, you need to wear comfortable clothes like a quick-dry t-shirt and full-length trek pants.
