On this trek to Kothaligad, you’ll climb up to an elevation of 3,100 feet along rock-cut stairs carved into the mountainside. Trekking along a boulder-strewn trail that weaves in and out of thick jungles, you’ll explore the rain-soaked greenery of the Western Ghats. Located about 30 kms away from Karjat, the Kothaligad Fort, also known as the Peth Fort, is one of the most prominent forts of Maharashtra. Every year, trekking enthusiasts visit the fort to click amazing photographs of mountain views from the top, including the nearby hill forts of Rajmachi and Siddhagad. Believed to have been built in the 18th century, the fort that remains today features ancient ruins of pillars, walls and caves that are decorated with carvings and inscriptions.

Arrive at the Karjat railway station by 07:00 hrs. Here, you'll meet your fellow trekkers and board private, shared vehicles that will take you to Ambiwadi, the base village of the trek to Kothaligad. After breakfast at the base village, you'll begin trekking to the Kothaligad Fort. Reach the fort by noon and explore the old ruins of Kothaligad.
Begin the return trek back to Ambiwadi, where vehicles will be waiting for to drive you back to Karjat. You'll arrive at Karjat railway station by 16:00 hrs. Your trip ends here.
