Kunti Betta is located just a few hours’ drive away from Bangalore at a distance of about 130 km and situated closer to the city of Mysore around 30 km away. It is just 3 km from Pandava-Pura. It is a one-day trekking experience and can be done either during the day or can be an overnight experience. The night trek lets you enjoy a panoramic sunrise view at the break of dawn from an altitude of roughly 3,000 ft. You can also visit the Thonnur Lake on your way which is a perfect backdrop for some memorable photography.

The day trek lets you experience the stunning sunset at the Thonnur Kere Lake while the night trek lets you in on a spectacular view of the sunrise and the vast open plains and grasslands surrounding the peak from an altitude of 2,882 ft. The night trek also lets you enjoy a lovely storytelling time around the campfire before dawn.

Kunti Betta is a twin set of hilltops and got the name from the Hindu mythological epic story called the Mahabharata where five powerful brothers called the Pandavas stayed here during their exile along with their Mother Kunti. It is named after their Mother, Kunti who was one of the two wives of King Pandu of Hastinapur.

It is believed that during their exile, Kunti Betta was Kunti’s favourite hangout spot and the vessel shaped rocks found there along with the pond at the top known as Kunti Kola was used by Kunti for cooking. Legend also says that Bheema, one of the Pandava brothers killed the demon Bakasur who was terrorising the local King and his followers. He slayed the demon here on one of the hillocks around Kunti Betta under Kunti’s command.

A large footprint on the rocks claims to be evidence of the myth and Bheema’s existence. There are few historic temples dating back more than a thousand years at the foothills and the hilltops. Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple is a notable one.

Most horrible organizers, no coordination among the team. As a group of 6 people we have decided to do something different than usual partying on this new year 31st eve hence decided to start the year with trekking to Kunti Betta. We were supposed to start around 9 PM on 31st night from Marathahalli Kalamandir bus stop (as pickup and drop service were part of package) however due to their internal confusion, the bus were over booked hence started around 11:30 PM from Kalamandir. So we had already started with bad mood also since there were no seats left hence the two of us reached the Kuntibetta base camp while standing in the bus throughout our journey. Indeed no doubt the trek was beautiful and nice but there were more than 100 people were trekking at same time because of which the place had become too congested. Finally after reaching to the peak after full night trek we had some shy of relief with beautiful sun rise and cool breeze. However while coming back again after the kayaking experience on the next day the driver had refuse to start the bus until 2:30 PM (which he had explained later that the organizers didn't pay him money so he didn't have sufficient amount to fuel up the vehicle too) until all the passengers in the bus started panicking and screaming at him. We were supposed to reach Bangalore next day around 2 PM however due to their miss communication we have reached the city around 5 PM. All the coordinators numbers were switched off and we tried reaching all of them to take us out of that place however there were no one we could connect too, in fact driver also had only one number to contact which was also not reachable. Please do not take any services from these guys as they don't know what are they doing. There's no coordination among the staff also they will just take you and dump somewhere like animals without even respecting your time, effort and money. Not at all worth for a Rupee.
