Today, you begin your motorcycling expedition from Manali and ride towards Keylong. Marking a rise in altitude, you will ride through the Rohtang Pass to reach the village of Jispa. The road gives you amazing views of the Lahaul mountains and surrounding mountain peaks. With fluttering Buddhist prayer flags all over, the Rohtang Pass marks a divide between the Kullu valley on one side and the Spiti and Lahaul valleys on the other. Today's ride will take you to Pang, marking your entry into the pure wilderness of the Himalayas. The route will take you through the Patseo region, an important trading centre of the 1950s for villagers from Lahaul, Zanskar and Kullu. You will ride in the shadows of hanging glaciers through the mountain passes of Baralach La and Lachulung La. Reach the Pang village after a brief desent through the green fields of Sarchu plateau. Today's journey will take through white-washed deserts to Leh. Start with an endless strip of asphalt loops that look like they've been etched into the reddish mountains. En route, you will ride through the More Plains that are home to native wildlife species such as the Tibetan wild kiang, wild horses and marmots. Changspa nomads often set up camps around this region. Your journey will continue along roads flanked with beautiful mountains on both sides as you ride through the Tanglang La Pass, the second-highest motorable pass in the world before reaching Leh. Your ride to the high altitude, cold deserts of the Nubra Valley will showcase a diversity of landscapes from snow-capped mountains to brown sand dunes.
