    Manali Chandratal Road Trip

    One of the best ways to explore the rustic and rugged landscapes of the Spiti Valley, this road trip from Manali to Chandratal showcases the imposing mountains of the Indian Himalayas. On a short itinerary of 3 days, you'll travel to an altitude of 14,100 feet and visit the moon-shaped Chandratal lake, that is only open to travellers during summer. En route, you'll get breathtaking views of the brown and barren mountain peaks that draw thousands of nature lovers to Spiti Valley every year. At night, you'll stay in tents pitched under a twinkling dark sky, for a complete Himalayan experience.

    Called Chandratal because of its moon-shaped features, the lake is a must visit destination for all travellers to the Spiti Valley. The lake is flanked by rolling mountains of the Spiti Valley on all sides, offering panoramic views of landscapes coloured in shades of brown and grey. This road trip from Manali to Chandratal can only be undertaken during summer. In the months of winter, as temperatures plummet to sub-zero, the still waters of the lake turn into ice, restricting travellers from visiting the lake.

    Manali Chandratal Road Trip Photos

    Report at the base camp in Old Manali by 09:00 hrs. From here, you'll board an SUV or Tempo Traveller and drive to the Chattru village, often used by travellers to Kaza or Hampta Pass as a camping location. Your drive will take you via the Rohtang Pass along the Chandra River, through giant mountains and patches of snow. At Chattru, you can spend the rest of the day exploring the campsite and the village. Overnight at Chattru in tents.

    Report at the base camp in Manali by 09:00 hrs. From here, you'll be driven to the village of Chattru. You will be accommodated in tents on a triple-sharing basis. Sleeping bags and mattresses will be provided for a restful night's sleep. The campsite is equipped with common kitchen/dining and dry toilet tents.     Wake up to a delicious breakfast and breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains. Today's journey will take you to the Chandratal Lake! You'll begin on a slightly bumpy road, swamped with small rocks and mud. As you navigate your way though the rough terrain, you'll reach the village of Batal where you can stop and take a short break. You'll continue towards the Kunzum Pass, but just before you reach the Pass, you'll turn on a dirt road leading to the Chandratal Lake. Spend some time on the banks of the Chandratal and explore the campsite where you'll be staying for the night. Overnight at Chandratal in tents.

    Wake up in the heart of wilderness and head to Chandratal. You will be accommodated in tents on a triple-sharing basis. Sleeping bags and mattresses will be provided for a restful night's sleep. The campsite is equipped with common kitchen/dining and dry toilet tents. Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

    On the last day of your road trip, wake up early and bid goodbye to the beautiful Chandratal Lake. Post breakfast, you'll begin your journey back to Manali and reach by late afternoon. Your trip ends here.

    Consumption of liquor, drugs, tobacco products and cigarettes is strictly prohibited during the road trip.
