This is a paragraph with little content.

This is another small paragraph.

  • Trip introduction

Hike unexplored trails in the Namdapha National Park, spot a range of rare birds and animals, taste the aromatic tea of Assam, visit the bird sanctuary of the Dibru Saikhowa National Park, trek alongside the Namdapha River on a rocky bed, visit the ethnic Lisu natives at the Embeong village, go camping in the midst of a rainforest and sleep in tents listening to the beating heart of nature.

On this 10-day Namdapha trek, you'll spot rare, avian beauties like the snowy-throated babbler, the rusty-bellied shortwing and see the native wildlife like red pandas and hoolock gibbons. You'll have one thrilling adventure after another, as you visit deep corners of a rainforest, so dense and so overgrown that it'll remind you of the tropical rainforests of the Amazon.

    Destination

The Namdapha National Park, in the north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh, is a lesser-known, non-commercial destination for a trek. The national park is dissected by several water bodies like the Noa Dihing River and the Namdapha River, giving rise to a thick and sprawling rainforest.

Apart from hundreds of species of birds like hornbills and woodpeckers, local wildlife like deer and elephants, tiny insects like butterflies and moths, the rainforest has also reported several sightings of leopards and tigers. With gigantic, moss-laden trees and overgrown shrubs covering acres and acres of land, the muddy trails in the remote national park are entirely cut off from civilization. The mountain range of Mt. Dapha Bum, with snow-covered peaks rising in the distance, offer enticing views from specific vantage points along the trails.

    Destination highlights

    • Explore trails and routes in the Namdapha National Park.
    • Spot a range of several exotic birds, animals and insects.

Arrive at the Dibrugarh airport. Here, a representative of the tour operator will meet you and escort you to the town of Tinsukia in a non-AC, private vehicle. The 1-hr drive will take you past open fields and green meadows. Check-in to the hotel in Tinsukia and spend the evening at leisure. You can visit the local marketplace to shop for any last minute essentials or visit local places of attraction. Overnight in a hotel at Tinsukia.

Day 2 of the Namdapha trek: Tinsukia to Miao

After a wake-up call with hot Assam tea, you'll visit the Dibru Saikhowa National Park, located a short drive and boat ride away from Tinsukia. The bird sanctuary is a designated biosphere reserve. You'll spend some time in the park, have breakfast and return to your hotel.

Today, you'll continue onward from Tinsukia and travel to Miao. The 3-hr drive will take through richly-coloured tea gardens, as you cross the state border from Assam to Arunachal Pradesh. At Miao, you'll spend the night at the Namdapha Jungle Camp on the banks of the Noa Dihing River. Overnight in a lodge at Miao.

Day 3 of the Namdapha trek: Miao to Hornbill Camp

A short drive from Miao later, you'll begin the Namdapha trek by crossing the Noa Dihing River over a bamboo bridge. Soon, you'll enter a thick rainforest of cane and bamboo trees, alive with the hooting of gibbons and deer and the chirping of woodpeckers and hornbills. After a few hours of trekking over muddy trails, as the sun begins inching down, you'll stop and set up camp in the middle of the rainforest. Overnight in tents at Hornbill Camp.

Day 4 of the Namdapha trek: Hornbill Camp to Ranijheel

Continue trekking through the thick rainforest. Today's section of the trail will showcase a few rare birds and native wildlife. Overnight in tents at Ranijheel.

Day 5 of the Namdapha trek: Ranijheel to Firmbase

Resume trekking from Ranijheel and make your way onward through the forest. Be on the lookout for avian beauties like the snowy-throated babbler and jungle wildlife like red pandas. Clear days with cloudless skies bring grand views of the snow-capped Mt. Dapha Bum in the distance. The tiny village is surrounded by organic farmlands that grow numerous flowers and fruits. Overnight in tents at Embeong.

Day 7 of the Namdapha trek: Embeong to Baloo Khat

The day's trail presents a few challenging sections as you cross over contours, trekking uphill over steep patches and descending down from the other end multiple times. Picturesque views of the thick rainforest reward trekkers from the top of hills. After trekking for a few hours, you'll come across the Noa Dihing River once again, where you'll set up your tents. Overnight in tents at Baloo Khat.

Day 8 of the Namdapha trek: Baloo Khat to Miao
