Elementary Paragliding Pilot Course (P1)

Day 1 includes two sessions on flat ground. The first session will cover site and wind assessment, equipment know-how, canopy layout, pre-flight checks, inflation, deflation and ground handling. You will begin your introductory lesson on flat ground. Your instructor will guide you in assessing wind conditions that are appropriate for your level and in understanding your limitations. Knowing the paragliding terms is important as it will help in communication.

In session two, you will train and tune your body movements to handle the flying equipment and forces of wind.

Today we will complete the third and fourth session.

Third session: We continue practicing what we learned in first two sessions. We will be using the flying glider which is easier to handle. You are expected to run for about 100 feet controlling the glider above your head with minimum instructions. Once you can do this you are ready for a small winch-based flight to understand takeoffs and landings. We may either use hand tow or static tow or a gentle slope to understand take off and landing techniques (Hops) and to get your solo clearance.

Fourth Session: In this session you will either have winch based flights or hill flying. These will be short flights.

There is no morning session on the third day. The fifth session is in the evening where you have independent solo flights from a hill. Depending on wind conditions we choose the training hill for solo flights. Take-off altitude will be between 300 to 450 feet.
