Paragliding in Mumbai
Do you want to fly like a bird and enjoy breathtaking views of the Sahyadris from the sky? Then paragliding in Mumbai is the perfect trip for you. Paragliding, an extreme adventure sport, is perfect for adrenaline junkies.
While paragliding, you get to enjoy the magnificent landscape dotted here and there with lakes, rivers and railway tracks running across from one side to the other, and the Western Ghats on the horizon.
These paragliding packages include all the equipment and services of an experienced pilot. Apart from these, the flights last for 10 to 15 min, taking you to a height of 2000 feet in the sky. The packages for tandem paragliding in Mumbai cost around INR 3000 per person on a weekday and go up over the weekends. For an additional cost of INR 1000 per flight, you can rent a GoPro from the operator to record your flight.
Paragliding in Mumbai takes place near the small village of Kamshet, located 110 km from Mumbai. It is located within the Western Ghats, offering mesmerizing views and perfect weather conditions for paragliding.
Getting there
You can get to Kamshet by road or by rail. If you prefer rail, then you can take a train to Lonavala, and then take a local to Kamshet from there. Kamshet is also connected to Mumbai by many state and privately run bus services. These buses run on a daily basis.
If you want, you can even bring your own car via the Mumbai-Pune expressway. And if you're getting your own bike, then take the old Mumbai-Pune highway (NH4) as two wheelers are not allowed on the expressway.

Reaching the pick-up point
The pick-up point for paragliding in Mumbai is Hotel Rangoli, located on the Old Mumbai-Pune highway (NH4), just before Kamshet. The hotel is on the right side of the highway when you are coming from Mumbai. Here, you'll meet the operator who will take you to the take-off point.
Although many travellers prefer to take their own car to the take-off point, it is recommended that you opt for the pick-up for two reasons. First, the road leading up to the take-off point is not well-maintained, and can be a pain to drive on. Second, the take-off point sometimes vary due to weather conditions.
Paragliding in Mumbai - Safety
During your tandem flights, you will be accompanied by a certified, experienced pilot who will handle the paraglider. All you have to do is sit back and enjoy the thrilling flight. Additionally, you'll be strapped in with good quality gear, which will be double checked by the pilot before the take off.
Apart from this, paragliding is a weather dependant activity. If the conditions are not favourable, with the winds being too strong or weak, or flowing in the wrong direction, then the pilot will hold-off the take off until these conditions are right. Under no circumstances will the pilot take off if they think the conditions aren't the safest.
