Pin Parvati Pass Trek

The Pin Parvati Pass trek is one of the most challenging and spectacular treks in Himachal Pradesh. It is a thrilling challenge for seasoned trekkers, not suitable for beginners. This 9-day trek covers nearly 100 km and takes you to an altitude of 17,450 feet above sea level. It offers some of the most breathtaking views in the country. It showcases the contrasting landscape and culture of the Kullu and Spiti valleys.

On this trek, you will not only trek through a constantly varying landscape but also get to see various sites like wooden bridges, high altitude lakes, streams, glaciers, etc. and you will get to sleep in tents in the remotest of areas in the middle of the Himalayas. All the while being accompanied by the towering mountain ranges and their snow-capped peaks.

Destination

The Pin Parvati Pass is the shorter route from Kullu to Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh. It is located at an elevation of 17,450 feet and has become one of the most sought after trekking destinations for many trekkers. On the trek, you will explore the sharply contrasting culture and landscape of the two valleys that will totally catch you off-guard. You will walk through vast green pastures dotted with wildflowers, dense forests and snow-covered fields, you will trek along the many streams and lakes into the rugged barren landscape of the Spiti Valley.

You will report at the Rumsu base camp by 08:00 hrs and will undergo registration process. After that embark on an acclimatization walk in the surrounding area. After the walk you will be given your motorspikes, gaiters, backpacks and trekking sticks. In the afternoon, you will attend an orientation programe to learn about the basics of trekking such as backpacking, marching technique and medical awareness. Overnight in tents at Rumsu base camp.

The reporting time at the Rumsu Base camp is 08:00 hrs. After registeration lunch will be served at 13:00 hrs. Snacks will be served post-orientation and dinner will be served in the late evening. | You will spend the night in tents, and you will be issued sleeping bags and mattresses for the night.

Rumsu Base Camp

Post-breakfast, you will leave the basecamp by 08:00 hrs for Kheer Ganga. You will be taken to Barshaini in a jeep, from where you will begin your trek to Kheer Ganga. It will be an easy trek of around 5 hours. En-route you'll pass through Nakthan and Rudranag villages. You will also get to see the hot water spring of the region. Overnight in tents at Kheer Ganga.

Day 2 Milestone

Rumsu Base Camp

You will start your trek at 09:00 hrs for Tunda Bhuj. It will take you around 6 hours to reach there but the trek is easy with a moderate ascend. The route runs on the left side of the Parvati River. You will find Gujjar Settlement at Tunda Bhuj. Reach by evening and spend the night in tents at Tunda Bhuj.

Day 3 Milestone

Kheer Ganga

Today, you will set out for Thakur Kuan. The trek is easy with little descend. You will cross a couple of wooden bridges on the way. Later, there is a climb for an hour to reach Thakur Kuan. The campsite is in the middle of a rich pasture which is quite scenic. Overnight in tents at Thakur Kuan.

Day 4 Milestone

Tunda Bhuj

Today, you will set out for Rubi Thach, which is a 5 hour trek with a few ascends. You'll have to cross 2 difficult bridges along the way made up of rock boulders. One bridge is known as Pandav Bridge, named after the legend Bheem, one of the Pandavas made it. It is often visited by shepherds.  Overnight in tents at Rubi Thach.

Day 5 Milestone

Thakur Kuan

Today, you will begin your trek for Manatalai lake. It will be a gradual climb and will take you around 5 hours to reach there. En-route you'll pass through Odi Thach. You'll reach Manatalai Lake by late afternoon. This place is of religious significance as it is believed that Parvati can be seen here in a lake form. Idols of Shiva, Ganesha and Trishul can also be seen on the bank. And the views here are breathtaking. Overnight in tents at Manatalai.

Day 6 Milestone

Rubi Thach

Today, you will begin your trek to Parvati base camp. The main ascend starts today. You will pass a big stream called Kala Khor nalla, care must be taken while crossing and it is advisable that it gets crossed before 10:00 hrs. You will then continue till Parvati side base camp, enroute you may encounter a large snow bed. Overnight in tents at Parvati side base camp.

Day 7 Milestone

Mantalai

Parvati side base camp

Today is the main day of the trip as you will cross the Pin Parvati Pass and go to Pin side base camp. It starts early in the morning, at 05:00 hrs so that you cross the glacier patch before the sun comes out. The top of the pass has a small temple, and you can see the peaks of South Parvati and Ganesh form there. The descend to Pin side base camp is bit difficult as the route can be slippery. Once you cross the Pin Nala, you will reach down to the Pin side base camp with the help of a rope. Overnight in tents at Pin side base camp.

Day 8 Milestone

Parvati side base camp

Today you will trek to Mud base camp. It is an easy but a long trek. The initial part of the trek is on the left side of the Pin Nala, and later it joins to a road to reach Mud village. From Mud village you'll continue to Kaza via jeep. You'll reach by 19:00 hrs. Your trip ends here.

Today's package includes breakfast and a packed lunch. Once you reach Mud Village non AC jeeps will drop you to Kaza by 19:00 hrs. Your trip ends here. Accommodation can be provided at Kaza by the operator at an additional cost, or you can carry on to Manali via bus or shared ride via Sumo.Β

Day 9 Milestone

Pin side base camp

Today is the last day of your trip, and you will start at 06:00 hrs from the camp in a jeep towards Manali. Today, you will also come across the famous Kunzum top which connects the Kullu Valley and Lahaul Valley with the Spiti Valley and Rohtang Pass while on your way to Manali. Your journey ends by 18:00 hrs.

Your journey ends before nightfall.

Today is the last day of the trip. You will begin your drive to Manali after having a breakfast. No lunch or dinner will be served to you. Your trip ends by 18:00 hrs.

Cancellation policy

For cancellations made 15 days or more before departure of the Pin Parvati Pass trek: INR 2000 will be deducted.

For cancellations made less than 15 days before departure date of the Pin Parvati Pass trek: No refund.

In case of no show: no refund.

Rescheduling the Pin Parvati Pass trek is possible for up to 6 months, however you need to inform the operator 15 days prior to departure date.

In case of cancellation of the Pin Parvati Pass trek due to natural calamities (such as rains, landslides, earthquakes etc) no refund is provided. Alternatives may be provided at the time of cancellation.

All refunds will be processed after deducting a transaction fee of INR 200 per person. This fee is charged by The Great Next.

Rules on trip

Travellers are required to follow instructions of the trek leader during the Pin Parvati Pass trek.

Travellers are requested to treat the local culture with respect and avoid littering, defacing property and monuments and causing general disturbance.

Consumption of alcohol, drugs and tobacco products like cigarettes is strictly prohibited during the Pin Parvati Pass trek.

It is mandatory for all participates to carry an original and photocopy of the government photo identity card (Aadhar card), a medical certificate (signed by a registered MBBS doctor) and the NOC form (printed and signed by the participant). | Transport from Patlikuhal to the Rumsu base camp can be provided at INR 700 for a Sumo or INR 500 for a small car. | Accommodation can be provided by the operator at Kaza at an additional cost | Any additional expenses that occur due to unforseen circumstances during the Pin Parvati Pass trek have to be borne by the participant. | The operator cannot be held responsible for any loss, damage, accident or death that occurs during the Pin Parvati Pass trek.
