Ramanagara is a small town which lies about 50 km or a 2-hour drive from the bustling metropolis that is Bangalore. It has majestic mountains like Kakasura, SRS and more as well as granite boulders that are most suited for trekking, rock climbing, and rappelling.

The mountains are also home to monumental centuries-old temples. Ramnagara’s claim to far so far has been to serve as the backdrop for the cult movie “Sholay” but that is quickly changing.

The rugged terrain of Ramanagara has the Magadi forest as its neighbour. This stunning forest is best known as a reserve for the Asian vulture in addition to being home for bears and leopards.

Night trek to Ramanagara
This Ramanagara trek has you exploring the stunning hills in the dark of the night, ending with a thrilling midnight rappelling session. With only torches to show you the way, you will cut through the forest with the silence enveloping you all around. 

The trek is fairly small and easy through a path with little vegetation and rocks. Post the trek, you will strap yourself in to rappel down boulders. You end the night with a campfire and some socialization. 

Tuck yourself in the sleeping bags and call it a night while you watch the starry skies as you drift off to dreamland. Come morning, you head back to Bangalore, making it a fun quick getaway.

Detailed itinerary:

You have to reach one of the many pick-up points strewn across Bangalore. From there, you will undertake a 2-hour scenic drive to Ramnagara. 

You will have some time to regain your energy and freshen up before the adventure gets underway. You will be climbing the rugged hills of Ramnagara which offer breathtaking views of the valley. 

The adventure isn’t limited to hiking and you will be partaking in other activities such as kayaking, paintball, rappelling, and ziplining. At the camp, you also have the option of archery and target shooting.

The setting sun will be your cue to call it a day and head back to Bangalore. Depending on the traffic, you should be back by 19:00 hrs.
 

Inclusions:

The costs for the trek cover the locally arranged transport for travelling between Bangalore and Ramnagara base. They also include all equipment which is required for the hike as well as the outdoor activities. 

The adventure activities which include rappelling, ziplining, paintball, and kayaking are part of the expenses. As are the outdoor games available at the campsite which include target shooting and archery.

Detailed itinerary:  

Day 1: Drive to the base

You will have to make it to one of the many pick-up points, mentioned by the operators, across Bangalore. The pick-up starts at 21:30 hrs so make sure to be at your desired point in time.

You will board the transport and take a 50 km drive to the starting point of the Ramnagara  Trek. Expect to reach by 23:00 hrs. You will commence the trek at 23:30 hrs after a briefing session. 
 

Day 2: Midnight rappelling and trekking

You begin the trek to Ramnagara through a forest. You will only be able to hear the familiar soothing sounds of crickets and bugs echoing in the night time. After the forest, it will be time for rappelling. 

You will rappel down boulders in this exhilarating night session. After this, you will climb to the top of the mountain. You will rest inside comforting sleeping bags; a bonfire and the stars for company.

You will wake up at 06:00 hrs and watch the forest come alive as it bathes in sunlight. You then begin your descent towards the base where you can have some much-needed breakfast. 

By 08:30 hrs, you will hop on the bus which will take you back to the city. You should reach by 10:30 hrs, subject to traffic. The trip ends.

Best Time to Ramanagara Trek

Ramanagara trek can be undertaken throughout the year. The best time to go is during the winter when the weather is cool and pleasing for trekking. Summers can become a bit uncomfortable.

In the rainy season, the landscape is carpeted with greenery but the trek might not be possible during inclement weather. The other adventure activities might be off-limits as well. 
 

                    

The starting point for the trek to Ramnagara lies about 50 km from the tech city of Bangalore. Transportation to this point and back is usually arranged by the operators and organizers. If not, you can always travel to the idyllic town via the road by taxi and buses.

Being one of the metro cities of the country, Bangalore is well connected to the rest of the country through all means of transport. 

The nearest airport is Bangalore International Airport which is connected to major national and international destinations. A number of private and state-run bus services are also available.

Bangalore has two railway stations - Bengaluru City Railway Station and Yeswantpur Junction which are well connected to most of the cities in India. You can even choose to drive down to Bangalore thanks to its connectivity with the national highways.
 

Comfortable and sturdy shoes for the hike are mandatory. You should wear a loose long-sleeved t-shirt or shirt along with track pants as your attire. Carry an extra pair of dry clothes if required.
If hiking in the cooler months, you can also wear a jacket or a sweater. For the rainy months, wear a raincoat or poncho for adequate protection. Appropriate sun-gear such as sunglasses, hats, and sunscreen should be worn year-round. 
Do not have any expensive jewellery or any unnecessary gadgets on your person for the trek to Ramanagara. Also do not bring with you any hard luggage like suitcases or trolleys.
 

All the gear and equipment that is needed for the trek, as well as the adventure activities, will be provided by the operators. You need to carry a sturdy backpack or rucksack with a rain cover.
