A gorgeous trek in many aspects, not just because it takes you into the splendid Sayhadris, but also because it does so in the monsoon. During these months, the Western Ghats blosssom into a rain-soaked paradise. There are waterfalls, mossy trails to navigate, tropical forests with lush green colours, and wildflowers everywhere. Ratangad is a towering 2000 year old fort with rock-cut water cisterns and caves at the top, carvings on the main gate, and a temple too. The most stunning feature is the rock peak of the fort, with a cavity at the top called the Eye of the Needle, or the 'Nedhe'.
Located at an altitude of 4255 feet, Ratangad fort is a historic fort in the Ahmadnagar district in Maharashtra. It overlooks not only the Bhandardara region but also several beautiful peaks such as Alang, Kulang, Kokankada, Katrabai and Kalsubai. An overnight bus journey takes you to Ratanwadi village, from where your 11 km trek to the top of the fort will begin. Once at the fort, enjoy the views, the history behind it and its intrinsic architecture, before heading back to the base.

Do make sure you're at the pick-up point in Wakad by 22:30 hrs. You'll board the bus that will drive you to the start point of the Ratangad trek. Overnight in the bus.

You'll spend the night in a private bus, en route to Ratanwadi. Do carry a shawl or bedsheet to keep yourself warm. No meals are included in today's package, so you might want to carry a light snack or water for the journey.

Smoking cigarettes, chewing tobacco or consuming alcohol is strictly prohibited on the Ratangad trek.

Taking photos or selfie near the edges of cliffs are not allowed on the Ratangad trek.
