  • Trip introduction

Escape from the city, and travel into the midst of nature on this overnight trek to Ratangad. Beginning from the base village of Ratanwadi, you'll begin your trek along a well-defined route to the top of the hill fort. The route begins with a short passage through farms and grass meadows, but continues as you enter latches of dense forest that overlay mountain slopes. As you approach the top of the fort, you'll be assisted by iron ladders constructed to help trekkers reach the summit. From the top, a clear day can offer views of surrounding forts like Alang, Kulang, Kokankada and Kalsubai.

    Destination

Located inside the forests of the Kalsubai Harishchandragad Wildlife Sanctuary, the Ratangad fort stands overlooking the vast expanse of Lake Arthur and the campsites of Bhandardara. The fort itself, called Ratangad, meaning 'the jewel fort', offers interesting ruins to explore, including ancient water cisterns, entrances and gates, caves, walls and other edifices.
