Sar Pass Trek in Himachal Pradesh

Take on the challenge of a moderately difficult, snow trek in Himachal Pradesh with this 6-day trek to Sar Pass. You'll spend the week surrounded by dense woods of pine and oak with beautiful views of snow-capped mountain peaks in the Parvati Valley. As you begin climbing from the town of Kasol, you'll encounter challenging and steep inclines on the trail, leading you up to an elevation of over 13,500 feet. En route, you'll stay in alpine tents pitched at some of the most scenic mountain ridges and meadows in the Himalayas. As you gain altitude and get closer to Sar Pass, you'll find yourself trekking in inches of thick snow, covering almost everything around you.

This trek to Sar Pass is recommended only for fit beginners and experienced trekkers since it involves a moderately difficult trail with sections of steep inclines and deep snow.

Destination

Sar Pass, located in the Parvati Valley of Himachal Pradesh, is not exactly a mountain pass but a ridge accessible via a 6-day trek from the base village of Kasol. A great introduction to high-altitude, snow treks, the trail to Sar Pass offers gorgeous views of a varied landscape, from lush meadows to white snowfields, from snow-capped hills to rolling flatlands.

Reach the Kasol Base camp by 10:00 hrs. After completing registration (where you have to verify your medical certificate and ID proof) feast on lunch. Post lunch you’ll embark on an acclimatization walk to Chalal Village. Once you return there is a briefing about the trek followed by allotment of rucksacks, gaiters etc. At night feast on dinner and have an early night in. Overnight at the Kasol Base camp.

Arrive at Kasol and go on a day trek to Chalal. You'll be accommodated in alpine tents at Kasol. Sleeping bags will be provided for a restful night's sleep. Your campsite comes with a common kitchen/dining tent and dry-pit style washroom tent. Today's meal package includes lunch and dinner.

Day 1 Milestone

Wake up early and after freshening up and breakfast you’ll begin your trek by 07:00 hrs sharp. Part of this journey is moderate as you pass by the Grahan Nalah, gorgeous pine and rhododendron forests. You may even catch sight of locals along the way. However, the last stretch encompasses a steep climb till you reach the Grahan Village right on top of a mountain. You’ll spend the night in this serene location in tents.

Trek from Kasol to Grahan. You'll be accommodated in alpine tents at Grahan. Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. All meals will be vegetarian. Jain meals can be arranged, if informed in advance.

Day 2 Milestone

Kasol base camp

Once again you’ll begin your day very early with breakfast and freshening up. By 07:00 hrs you’ll begin your trek towards Min Thach. This journey entails a combination of moderate to sleep slopes. However, along the way you’ll catch views of the Min Thach, Nagaru and Sar Top on the mountains. Finally, after crossing a forest you’ll reach Min Thach. You’ll spend the night in camp tents.

Trek from Grahan to Mung Thach. Throughout the trek, you'll be accompanied by an experienced trek leader who will guide and assist you on the trail. You'll be accommodated in alpine tents at Mung Thach. Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 3 Milestone

Grahan

You’ll follow the same routine as the previous day and begin your trek towards Nagaru by 07:00 hrs. The first part of your journey begins with a glacial climb and after a while you’ll approach the tree line. As this route hardly has any water sources, make sure to fill your bottles before the journey. After 4 hours of trekking you’ll reach Nagaru, where you’ll set up your tents for the night. From your camp magnificent views of the Parvati Valley can be seen.

Trek from Mung Thach to Nagaru. Throughout the trek, you'll be accompanied by a staff of helpers, cooks and porters. You'll be accommodated in alpine tents at Nagaru. Today's meal package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 4 Milestone

Mung Thach

You’ll begin your day extra early today by 04:00 hrs for your trek towards Sar Pass as this climb is steep. Most of this path is covered in snow. However, once you reach the Sar Pass you’ll be met with spectacular views of the Tosh Valley below. Your descent towards Biskeri Thach consists of one of the longest snow slides. As you move down, signs of vegetation begin to appear as you pass through a forest of rhododendron before reaching Biskeri. Once you reach, you’ll spend the night in tents.

Day 5 Milestone

Nagarau

On the last day of your journey, you’ll begin your return trek towards Kasol. This trek includes first descending down towards Pulga Village, after which you’ll cross the Parvati River to reach Barshaini. This journey is moderate and enjoyable as you’ll catch beautiful views of surrounding mountains and forests. From Barshaini, a jeep will drop you back to the Kasol Base camp. You’ll reach by 17:00 hrs. Your trip ends here.

Your trip ends by late afternoon.

Cancellation policy

For cancellations made 15 days before departure date of the Sar Pass trek in Himachal Pradesh: INR 2000 will be deducted.

For cancellations made less than 15 days before departure date of the Sar Pass trek in Himachal Pradesh: no refund.

In case of no show: no refund.

Rescheduling the Sar Pass trek is possible for up to 6 months, however you need to inform the operator 15 days prior to departure date. 

In case of cancellation of the Sar Pass trek in Himachal Pradesh due to natural calamities (such as rains, landslides, earthquakes etc) no refund is provided. Alternatives may be provided at the time of cancellation. 

All refunds will be processed after deducting a transaction fee of INR 200 per person. This fee is charged by The Great Next.

Rules on trip

Travellers are required to follow instructions of the trek leader during the trek to Sar Pass.

Consumption of alcohol, drugs and tobacco products like cigarettes is strictly prohibited during the trek.

Travellers are requested to treat the local culture with respect and avoid littering, defacing property and monuments and causing general disturbance.

It is mandatory for all participates to carry an original and photocopy of the government photo identity card (Aadhar card), a medical certificate (signed by a registered MBBS doctor) and the NOC form (printed and signed by the participant). | The tour operator takes utmost care to ensure maximum safety of travellers and will not be held responsible for any accident, mishap or loss of life or property during the trek to Sar Pass.

The tour operator reserves the right to alter or cancel the itinerary of the trek to Sar Pass due to any unforeseen circumstances such as bad weather or natural calamities. Travellers will bear any costs arising due to such a change in the itinerary.
