  • Scuba diving courses in India

Doing a scuba diving course in India offers you a chance to explore the gorgeous vast coastline. You’ll learn scuba at locations that offer great visibility and colourful marine life. All courses will include all learning material and any equipment that you require to complete the course. Do note, you will need to pass a 200-metre swimming test to earn your certification, so you should know how to swim.

Where can I do scuba diving courses in India?

You can sign up for your scuba diving course in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, in Goa, in Udupi and Murdeshwar in Karnataka, and in Pondicherry. At all these locations, you’ll be doing a mix of theory learning, some shallow/confined water training, and then your open water dives.

    Scuba diving for beginners

If you know how to swim, you can sign up for a PADI scuba course. To get your certification, you will need to pass a 200-metre swimming test and a 10-minute floating test. However, if you don’t know how to swim or are a beginner to scuba diving, you can sign up for a Try Dive. This is a short scuba dive of about 20-25 mins, guided by your scuba instructor, so you can experience the fun of scuba diving. Read about Top Options in Andamans for Scuba Beginners.

How to prepare for your scuba diving course

As long as you’re in good health, you should be fine during your scuba course. If you have a cold, suffer from asthma, or have a sinus problem, it could interfere with your breathing, so check with your doctor before you book.

When you’re underwater, if you can control or regulate your breathing, it can be quite helpful. Many divers find it useful to practise yoga or breathing exercises, and find it easier to adjust to the experience of breathing only through their mouths during the dive. However, don’t worry if you’ve never done breathing exercises before. This isn’t a prerequisite, and thousands of divers without any prior training learn how to breathe quickly and easily.

You don’t need to pack anything for scuba diving in India, except for comfortable swimwear and a towel. You’ll be provided with all the equipment you need by your scuba operator. Read our blog Understanding Scuba Gear to know what equipment you’ll be given. Carry long-sleeved clothing, a pair of sunglasses and a cap for the sunny boat rides out to your dive spot.
