    Destination highlights

    • Trek on a snow-covered winter trail.

  • Day 1 of Kedarkantha snow trek: Arrive at Sankri

Do ensure that you reach Sankri by afternoon or late afternoon. You have a choice of public transport or a shared cab to Sankri. At Sankri, you'll have some time to explore the local market or take a walk to get those muscles warmed up. Overnight in guesthouse.

Day 2 of Kedarkantha snow trek: Drive to Taluka; trek to Juda ka talab

A short walk takes you to Taluka, from where you begin your trek. Here, a narrow trail leads up through the pine forests. During winters, the trail is covered with snow and therefore can be challenging. The climb up to Juda ka talab is steep and takes about 3-4 hours. But the reward is worth it! This small pond is serene and green in the summers, but during the winter, it freezes over. With pine trees loaded with snow, this location is absolutely spectacular in the winter. You’ll be camping in tents here for the night.

Day 3 of Kedarkantha snow trek: Juda ka Talab to Kedarkantha base camp

Today’s route involves a steep climb of about an hour to the meadows at the top. This climb is a challenge, but at the end, you’ll be at a wide open meadow, with views of Himalayan peaks such as Banderpoonch, Swargarohini, Black Peak and more. You’ll spend some time here, rest for a while, and then continue on to the Kedarkantha base camp. The campsite here offers stunning views of the surrounding snow-clad mountains.

Day 4 of Kedarkantha snow trek: Kedarkantha summit, return to Hargaon

You start before dawn to catch the spectacular view of the sunrise from the Kedarkantha peak. As you get to the summit, you’ll see the first rays of the sun appearing through the grey morning, turning the peaks gold. This is a sight you won’t forget. At the summit, you’ll see stunning views of the Gangotri, Yamunotri, and Kinner Kailash mountain ranges. After spending a couple of hours here, you start heading towards Hargaon, which is the campsite for the night.

Day 5 of Kedarkantha snow trek: Hargaon to Sankri/Dehradun

Today you begin your return to Sankri. The way down can get slippery, so watch your step. It takes about 4 hours to trek from Hargaon to Sankri. The trip ends at Sankri. You can choose to head back to Dehradun on the same day.
