• Trip introduction

Mt. Kanamo, or the White Hostess, is a glacial mountain with a landscape formed over thousands of years of natural erosion. The Kanamo Peak trek is one of the few treks in India that takes you up a dizzying summit of almost 20,000 feet, without requiring technical climbing skills.

While this is a tough trek, with steep inclines in stark terrain, it has the advantages of being an easily accessible one, and will allow you to summit on Day 3 itself. This unique itinerary is one of the few that splits the first day of trekking the entire 18 kms from Kibber village to the base camp into two days, giving you time to acclimatize, and leisure to enjoy this spectacular region.

IMPORTANT: The trek starts from Kibber at 06:00 hrs on the first day. You should plan to arrive stay in Kibber a day or two earlier, so you can acclimatize fully and not be late for the trek departure.

The Kanamo Peak is viewed by locals as the holiest mountain in Spiti, and you'll feel a sense of awe when you see it too. You'll start from the charming village of Kibber, that time seems to have left behind. From here, you set out into the territory of the ibex and the snow leopard. The landscape is barren and rocky, with hardly any vegetation to relieve the weather-bleached grey stone. From the summit, you'll be able to see spectacular views of the Lahaul and Spiti ranges, as well as of Pin Parvati Pass. Mt. Kanamo's twin peak Shila is not far and is always blanketed with thick snow.
