• Trip introduction

Embark on a trek to Sudhagad, one of the most exciting and adventurous treks in the Sahyadri mountains. In the wee hours of dawn, you'll begin trekking from the base village of Thakurwadi. With the rising sun on the horizon, you'll climb over mountain slopes, covered by densely overgrown forests. At the fort of Sudhagad, you can explore the old ruins of walls, temples, edifices and door-ways. If you're lucky, the morning mist will turn the landscape into a paradise for photographers and nature lovers.

A relatively easy, one-day adventure, this trek to Sudhagad fort is perfect for beginners as well as experienced trekkers.

Located close to the Kundalika Valley, a 2-hr drive away from Lonavala, the fort of Sudhagad is one of the best preserved forts of Maharashtra. After ascending to an altitude of over 2,000 feet to scale the fort, you'll get sunning views of the Mulshi Dam reservoir and the Ghangad Fort.

Sudhagad, once a contender to the massive fort of Raigad as the seat of the historic Maratha kingdom, is now a popular trekking destination in the Western Ghats. The fort houses a well-built temple of Bhorai Devi and the gigantic stone-made entrance called the Maha Darwaja.
