Trekking
This is a paragraph with little content.

This is another small paragraph.

  • Trip introduction

The Hampa Pass trek is a perfect combination of the best of Himachal Pradesh: glacial valleys, pine forests, open meadows, limpid waterways and a thrilling adventurous crossing through a high-altitude pass that connects two valleys. In one crossing, you'll move from the greenery of Kullu Valley to the stark valley of Lahaul on the other side. This itinerary gives you a whole day of fun at Chandratal Lake, because you'll be camping a short drive away. With this schedule, you can take in the views and enjoy the lake for longer than most Hampta Pass treks.

    Destination

On the Hampta Pass trek, one passes from the orchards and lush green valleys of Kullu to the bleached grey landscape of Lahaul, where Chandratal Lake lies. You'll be seeing a change in the flora and fauna while you walk. Your trek begins in Manali, and moves on to the colder upper reaches of the Kullu valley. You can expect to be camping at some gorgeous locations all along this Hampta Pass trek.

    Destination highlights

    • Accomplish the feat of trekking up to an altitude of 14,000 feet
    • Visit the mesmerizing Chandra Tal – a lake in the shape of a crescent moon
    • Splash in river crossings and drink from waterfalls
    • Traverse a high altitude pass to go from Kullu to Lahaul
    • Witness hanging glaciers, expansive meadows, and thick forests with a different view at every turn

  • Day 1 of the Hampta Pass trek: Trek to Chika

Do report to the Manali bus stand by 09:00 hrs. You'll eat breakfast here while you get a briefing, and then board vehicles to take you to Jobra. This is where your trek starts. A narrow trail leads from here to a forest of pine trees and suddenly, you're in the midst of nature. A variety of trees like maple, oak, deodar can be spotted on the trail. You'll walk across lush meadows, cross rickety wooden bridges, and see horses grazing in open grasslands. You'll reach your first campsite by early evening, and will have the rest of the evening off to relax. Dinner and overnight at camp site.

Day 2 of the Hampta Pass trek: Chika to Balu ka Gera

Today’s trek is a thrilling adventure. After a hearty breakfast you will begin your trek to Balu ka Gera. Your route takes you scrambling over boulders, with the Rani river flowing alongside. The land around you is covered in wildflowers, and small streams gush down the slopes. As you approach Balu ka Gera, the greenery is replaced by browns and greys. You'll be camping at Balu ka Gera, where the steep climb to Hampta Pass begins. Close by, there is a glacier-fed pool which is beautiful. Overnight in tents.

Day 3 of the Hampta Pass trek: Hampta Pass day!

The weather is always unpredictable in a pass, so you'll be starting early, to try to catch the clear skies and lower winds of the morning. It's a steep climb today, so set a steady pace and take frequent breaks. Hampta Pass is windy and might be hard to recognise, but your guide will tell you when you're here. Once you leave the pass behind, you'll be in Lahaul. It's a steep descent from the pass to your campsite, and can be tricky to navigate, so do watch your step. You'll be camping at Shea Goru tonight. Overnight in tents.

Day 4 of the Hampta Pass trek: Chandratal day

Another day, another early start. The best part of today’s trek is the river crossing right at the start of the trek. This crossing will have your heart thumping and adrenaline pumping and make the rest of the trek a breeze! The remainder of the trek is downwards and easy. At the end of your descent you will be able to see the valley of river Chandra which will signal your arrival in Chhatru. From here, weather and other conditions permitting, you will board a taxi and visit Chandratal. This is a shimmering lake surrounded by mountain peaks and in the shape of a crescent moon. If you’re lucky, you will be able to witness it in all its glory. If not, you will camp in Chhatru without visiting Chandratal. The evening is free for leisure time. After that it’s dinner time and then to get some much needed rest. This brings your trekking to an end. Overnight in tents.

Day 5 of the Hampta Pass trek: Drive to Manali

Even though there is no trekking today, you will start early to avoid traffic jams. Today you will drive from Manali to Chhatru. En route, you'll drive through Rohtang Pass, one of the highest motorable passes in the world. This makes it the perfect ending to a perfect trek. Capture one last photo memory at Rohtang Pass and then head to Manali to reach by 17:00 hrs. The trip ends once you reach Manali.
