This is a paragraph with little content.

This is another small paragraph.

  • Trip introduction

Hampta Pass is one of the best loved treks in the Himalayas, and rightly so. It combines the thrill of being able to scale a pretty high mountain pass, with the possibility of fit beginners being able to tackle the challenges of the trail. While the first and last days are leisurely hikes through absolutely gorgeous scenery, with waterfalls, meadows filled with flowers, and clear streams cutting across, there are some tricky parts to provide the adrenaline.

It's a short duration trek with unmatched views and campsites in very pretty locations.

    Destination

Your trail takes you through mixed forests of spruce, pine, maple and oak, with birds chirping, shaggy shepherd dogs, and sheep dotting the landscape. You'll also see a colourful abundance of wildflowers depending on the season, and if you're lucky, you'll be walking on snow on the Pass day.

Your trek begins from the lush environs of Manali valley and progresses in relaxed stages to a height of 14,000 feet.

    Destination highlights

    • Negotiate tricky boulders and scree-covered slopes
    • Climb to a high pass of 14000 feet without needing technical mountaineering skills
    • Don't forget your camera for the spectacular views of Indrasan and Deotibba peaks
    • Meet friendly local shepherds en route
    • Camp in stunning campsites all along your trail

  • Day 1: Manali to Chikha

Today your adventure begins! You'll be driven to the dam site at Jobra, from where your trek begins. The early part of the trail is leisurely, meandering through mixed forests of pine, chestnut and maple trees. You'll cross a meadow that is home to a shepherd camp where you can interact with locals. You'll cross a river and climb up to your meadow campsite at Chikha. From here, you may choose to go for a walk to a nearby waterfall with wonderful flora and fauna, including a number of white-capped redstarts, small colourful birds who fill the air with their chirps. Overnight in tents.

Day 2: Chikha to Balu ka gheera

Today's trek is great fun! You'll gain height soon after your trail begins, and will reach a gorge section, filled with boulders along the river. You'll have to negotiate this patch to get to a meadow, bordered with a waterfall and a small river which requires careful crossing. The Balu ka Gheera campsite lies just beyond this. If you and the rest of the group is up to it, you can walk a little further to get to a higher campsite, which makes the walk tomorrow much shorter. Go to bed early tonight as you have a very early morning. Overnight in tents.

You'll experience the thrill of climbing a steep slope covered with scree, and then walk along a ridge as the sun rises. After a 4-5 hr trek, you'll be rewarded with stunning views of the Indrasan and Deotibba peaks that dominate the landscape. In the distance, the ranges of Lahaul sprawl out under your eyes. You'lll spend some time to enjoy your hard-earned victory before beginning your descent back to your campsite. Overnight in tents.
