  • Trip introduction

    This exciting 5-day trek to Indrahar pass starts from the charming Tibetan Buddhist town of McLeodganj and takes you through the vast undulating meadows of Triund.

    Trekkers will visit mountain temples and monasteries, witness the daily life of Himalayan shepherds, and spend a lot of time enjoying spectacular views.

    The group stops at some very scenic campsites along the trek, but the highlight is definitely the views of Mani Mahesh Kailash Peak and the Pir Panjal range from Indrahar Pass.

    This is a moderately challenging trek and is perfect for newbies and people with past experience looking for a fun trek in the Himalayas.

    Destination

    McLeodganj is a small town in Himachal Pradesh, a northern state of India. Surrounded by the Himalayas, this beautiful hill station is home to His Highness Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government-in-exile.

    Indrahar Pass is a prime attraction for tourists visiting Dharamsala. At a towering height of 14500 feet above sea level in the Dhauladhar range of the Himalayas, this pass offers panoramic views of the Pir Panjal range, Mani Mahesh, Kailash peak and the underlying Kangra valley.

    Rules on the trip

    GIO has a set of guidelines that all participants must adhere to based on the tenets of ‘Leave No Trace’ and ‘Tread Light’ policies. These guidelines are very simple and prioritise travelling in small groups, better planning, understanding impact of camping, proper waste disposal, respecting local cultures, sensitivity towards wildlife and so on.

    Cancellation policy

    If you cancel 45 days before departure: Full refund (after deducting any expenses that have been incurred for hotel bookings, transport, etc.)

    If you cancel 30-45 days before departure: 75% of trip cost will be refunded (after deducting any expenses that have been incurred for hotel bookings, transport, etc.)

    If you cancel 15-30 days before departure: 50% of trip cost will be refunded (after deducting any expenses that have been incurred for hotel bookings, transport, etc.)

    If you cancel 15 days or less before departure: No refund

  • Day 1: Reach McLeodganj

    Participants arrive at McLeodganj and check into the hotel. The day is spent exploring the sights of McLeodganj. Participants can take a stroll in the local market or visit monasteries or viewpoints around the town.

    Day 2: McLeodganj to Triund

    Participants take a 30-minute drive to Gallu Devi temple, after breakfast. From here the trekking begins, with an easy ascent towards Triund. The trail passes through a mixed forest of oak, rhododendron and deodar trees. The trail also offers excellent views of Dharamkot and Dharamshala valley. Triund is a flat meadow on top of a ridge from where participants enjoy the spectacular views of Dhauladhar range and Kangra valley. Overnight stay in tents.

    Dy 3 : Triund to Laka Got

    Participants trek through rhododendron and oak forests to reach Laka Got. Laka Got is a temporary shepherd camp and is situated at the snout of the small glacier, which is full of snow and ice in early summer, and the snow melts away during the monsoon. Participants also get an insight of customs and cultures of the local shepherds. Overnight stay in tents.

    Day 4: Laka Got to Indrahar Pass and back to Laka Got

    Participants have an early breakfast and start trekking through steep terrains to reach Lahesh caves. From the caves to the pass, it is a completely uphill trek and it takes about 3-4 hrs to make it to the top. Enjoy the breathtaking views of Pir Panjal range, Mani Mahesh, Kailash peak and the underlying Kangra valley. After capturing and soaking in the views participants head back to the campsite. Overnight stay in tents.

    Day 5: Laka Got to McLeodganj
