  • Trip introduction

The Everest of Maharashtra, Kalsubai is a must-do monsoon trek. It is the highest peak of the Sahyadris in Akole Taluka, of the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. The climb is challenging, especially during the monsoons when the winds are strong and the rocks are wet and mossy. The authorities have built iron bars to help those climbing, but you'll still be challenged by the weather. A moderately difficult trek, the effort is well rewarded with spectacular views from the peak.

    Destination

Although many trekkers like to visit Kalsubai during the winter, it is absolutely spectacular during the monsoon. You'll be drenched in no time, but you'll be walking along a carpet of damp shrubs and twigs, seeing mist rolling in, and getting views that stretch into the horizon. Getting to the peak is the ultimate thrill, but there's also plenty to explore while you're there. You'll visit an ancient temple that can accommodate only 6 people at a time. Surrounding the peak is a panoramic view of the Bhandardhara Dam and forts such as the Ajoba, Ratangadh, Katrabai Wall, Naneghat and Jivdhan. You can spot the many peaks of the Sahyadri ranges from the highest vantage point.

    Destination highlights

    • Summit the Everest of Maharashtra.
    • Trek through moderately challenging terrain.
    • Take photographs of a stunning panoramic view of the Bhandardara dam and other peaks close by.
